Another great reaction. Taking off your helmet on the field is always a penalty. It's allowed only during time outs and between quarters. Its not a discretionary call -- if you are caught with your helmet off -- it's called every time. Doesn't happen that often because the players know the rules.

Taking your helmet off in celebration has been a penalty for about 30 years give or take. It was instituted after it became vogue in the 90s for players to make a big play and then take their helmets off to get some face time on camera. That did not go over well with the No Fun League (though in fairness doing that kind of slowed the game down), so they added the rule in 1998 that taking your helmet off in the field of play was unsportsmanlike conduct. It’s enforced in a much more even handed way than it was at the start — I remember one player getting called for a 15 yard penalty because he had to remove his helmet to fix the do rag he was wearing underneath it because it had fallen over his eyes during the previous play. My memory wants me to say it was Deion Sanders, but I would not trust that recollection one bit. These days they do allow players to remove their helmets briefly if they need to adjust it.

You were asking about the Thanksgiving Thursday games. Used to be Thanksgiving was the only Thursday the NFL played on, but of course now they have a game every Thursday. The Lions always play on Thanksgiving afternoon and the Cowboys always play on Thanksgiving afternoon, usually the late afternoon game. And then the NFL adds a third game to Thanksgiving primetime which is usually a pretty decent matchup.

Enjoyed it! Glad there were no wasps!! 😂

Taking off your helmet essentially is the equivalent of taking off your jersey in Association Football.

Arthur Smith is still a new coach but he seems to be very good at what he does. He uses the run game extremely well, which makes sense considering he was the co-ordinator for Derrick Henry's rise in Tennessee previously. Quarterback does not carry the weight on his team as it would most others because of the focus on the run. Quarterback's role in his offence is to be more of a "Game Manager", or essentially, make the throws you need to make and don't mess up and you'll be alright, rather than being the superhero with the team's success being your responsibility. Atlanta also drafted Bijan Robinson, a highly touted running back in this year's draft to further this strategy. He was drafted 8th overall which is far higher than most would draft any RB these days, which speaks to both the value of running backs in Arthur Smith's offence, as well as Bijan Robinson's ability.

Hey guys, of course I have Netflix but have not watched one minute of this series or the "Last Dance" without you. My wife thinks I need to get a life. So does my brother, but I did recently retire so now I have more time on my hands than I knew was possible. I've got a few projects around the house to finish before the onset of winter. But I really don't know what I will be doing with myself as the finality of retirement sinks in. I had always planned to buy myself a boat and made sure to buy a house with RV parking. (A large area of pavement or gravel alongside your driveway designated for the parking and storage of recreation vehicles ie boats, motorhomes, travel trailers) However, nowadays you can join a boat rental scheme and have access to all types of boats without the maintenance, insurance and storage cost associated with owning them. My wife points out that our neighbor has owned his boat (similar to the one I want) for the 18 years we've lived here and we've seen him use it less than once a year. No kidding.! $80K boat that doesn't get used an average of once a year.

The only other time I can remember it changing an outcome was the Dwayne Rudd game 20 or so years ago. Even dumber than this one.

I think a good look at the history of the Buffalo Bills and why a lot of people talk about it as a tortured franchise would be the 30 For 30 film "Four Falls of Buffalo" I don't want to spoil anything, but it's easily a look at one of the best teams ever assembled over multiple years, a look at what they faced, and how the team and city of Buffalo impacted each of the big name players for that era.

I've always felt for Marcus Mariota, he seems like a good dude but you're both right when you see his confidence go right out the window - I feel like he's even harder on himself than most other NFL QBs and that leads him to make some very bad decisions in the moment. Hey, you guys ever consider reacting to Ted Lasso here on the Patreon? I'd love to see what you think of how the Premiere League is presented (plus the show is great overall)

It is a well established rule for decades in all levels of Football (NFL, College, High School etc), removal of the helmet unless on your own sideline, even if the play has been whistled dead- your team will be penalized for a 15 yard "Unsportsmanlike Conduct"....It's not controversial at all

NFL have 1 Thursday Night Game every week (except on Thanksgiving which have 3 now with the Detroit Lions guaranteed to host the 12:30 ET game, the Dallas Cowboys hosting the 4:30 ET game, and 2 random teams playing in the Prime Time Game.....on the West Coast, we get Football starting at 9:30 AM, we're so lucky)

As a fan of the PAC 12 (RIP) and of course any well-performing Samoan, Marcus Mariota is a fantastic athlete....But I always felt, he's just never going to be a "Great" NFL QB. He's an All-Time College QB, but he was just was never going to be a consistent NFL winner.

Michael Dunlay

It is not subjective. If you take your helmet off you are playing to the cameras and want everyone to see you and what you look like. zzif you didn't have this rule everyone would be taking their helmet off all the time.
