What an insanely gripping episode this was. As Michael Jordan's fame peaked to unparalleled levels in the early 1990s in the wake of consecutive NBA titles and a starring role on the Olympic Dream Team, his image as "Air Jordan" made him a profoundly significant cultural figure.

Stan Lee was Marvel.

The all star game uses East and West jerseys now. Anything to sell more junk.

Was starting to get worried we weren’t going to hear any fun British pronunciations of Nike (rhymes with Mike) and Add-id-dass during the sneaker section but you got there during the Olympics bit, nice job!

DN Reacts

Haha an American told me that the way we pronounce Adidas is actually the correct way 😂

If you want more background on those Detroit Pistons teams and Dennis Rodman there are 30 for 30s called “Bad Boys” and “Rodman”.

That movie where Nick recognized Martin Lawrence is Do The Right Thing, and guess who the guy in the yellow shirt and glasses is? Giancarlo Esposito, aka Gus Fring! It's a classic piece of American cinema, one of Spike Lee's first movies. And I watched "Air", the movie about Nike and Jordan with Matt Damon, earlier this year, it's not bad, but I think I set my expectations too high. It's a nice feel-good movie. I don't think you learn anything that they don't tell you here though.

So for the jerseys in the All-Star game, there were East and West All-Star jerseys before this, but the NBA did individual team jerseys from 97-02 where East wore their team home jerseys (white or light color) and West wore team away jerseys (dark color). 2003 went back to East and West jerseys (usually a form of blue vs red in this era), then 2018 did away with East vs West and changed it to two captains (top-voted player from each conference) and they draft their teams from the full pool of all-star selections. They did 2018 and 2019 where one team wore black with white logo and the other team white with black, but the logo on each jersey was the player's team logo. The monochromatic thing got a lot of hate, so they returned to the one colorful color vs another with standardized all-star jerseys. Plenty of changes in recent years to get more All-Star hype, so we're likely to see more switch ups, maybe even with the jerseys.

Kobe Bryant appearing here acted as a sort of closure for sports fans, as you may know, he, his daughter, and 7 other victims were tragically killed in January 2020 in a helicopter crash, and this docuseries came out I believe in May of 2020. I’m not sure if you’ve done a video of Kobe or know much about him, but he went on to win 5 championships, including a 3-peat with Phil Jackson coaching and is widely regarded as one of the best/most impactful players ever. He was the only person who’s mentality and commitment to winning could rival Michael Jordan’s, which is something he learned from his “big brother” as Kobe and Jordan both say.

I really love that you guys are watching this documentary. I also like the willingness to learn a brand new game and be curious. But as a Bulls fan that grew up in the years after Michael and the Bulls, I have seen little happiness as a fan. I really suggest the documentary on Derrick Rose. It shows the complete obliteration of the franchise and downfall of the Bulls. It could be very interesting watch as it shows what happened with Derrick Rose and why Bulls fans are mad at ownership. It also explains why Derrick is probably the biggest what if ever and why he was so loved. But also why he is also controversial. The documentary is called Pooh: The Derrick Rose story. Its on Youtube and its an hour and fourty minutes long. I also want to say keep up with great reacts!

Larry Bird Sports Century Doc is worth watching! Great to see his story, a great story for sure. Also the Bird and Magic 30 for 30 is good

Just catching up on you guys watching now, but Jesse Helms saying "There's no joy in Mudville tonight" took my breath away with how racist it was...and I've lived in the American south my whole life. Racists call Black people "mud people" for reference.

DN Reacts

I didn’t know that was used as a racial slur, thank you for pointing that out, that’s disgusting!

If it hasn't been mentioned already, you guys should really watch the movie "Air". It stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and it's all about how Nike was able to get Michael Jordan to sign with them. Incredible story and it really is what put Nike on the map. And even though Michael is the best basketball player of all time, that decision is also what has bankrolled him and his family and will probably continue to do so for generations. Shoutout to Dolores Jordan.
