Err.... master, do we have stealth rune or rune to fully hide our presence? And is all rune are totally rigid? I mean can't we just experimentally combine runes?

Azure got job security

Surely they have an invisibility rune, I'd doubt any civilization is incapable of the concept and Molric would understand it's bending light around an object that makes it invisible.

Krenn

Also there's the fact Azure could be completely wrong about the systems sharing significant principles. It could be the similarities end with them being drawn. While their runes are full of curves and angles that are natural the blue sun relates to the soul. So it could be super abstract like fractals or some shit. I'm always surprised Azure has AI like abilities but cannot combine lots of techniques and knowledge to create new and improved stuff. He was able to fix the world tree sutra. So surely he could help MC invent all kinds of stuff. Stories great, just feel like Azure is capable of much more than were seeing right now.

Naoggeddon

There was that rune they used to make the hood of their robes all shadowy mentioned before and tier 2 robes and up had some aura dampening effect to them

Naoggeddon

Other then something like barkskin for defense or something to artificially increase mass don't see any other runes really being needed. Would think with his current kit would be better to look into energy storage for longer use of enhancements or requirement/steps to get to higher rank. Even barkskin seems not as helpful since if he had a higher energy capacity could just spam the shield rune he already has

Naoggeddon

With red sun being about physical enhancement and already having a rune for: melee combat, ranged combat, healing, flight, instant movement, flat damage resistance barrier, and strength boost. The only runes I'd see needing now would be environmental adaptation (survive in extreme environment but might need blue to combine with) (water, high pressure, heat/radiation, lack of air), a long term movement boost for traveling over long distances , some way to add more mass to actions without increasing size but I'd consider these things and upgrades on existing to be from a higher tier rune and turns my thought back to MC needs tiers not more specialization or options

So, idea on a new rune that quickly spiraled out of control. A physical energy storage creating rune, aligned to a specific element. The red sun’s power is as far as I can tell unable to create true physical manifestations, or at least not ones that hold energy, since I’ve only seen those crystals that only ever reflect energy. Neither can the small amount of elemental energy that they make do that no their own. But what if both energies could make something physical by coalescing together, arranging themselves in patterns befitting the element that the red sun adapts to, making something physical? Wood would make a fruit, earth a special type of rock, ice… ice. And more! I’m going to type the rest of this in a reply so as to not put too much of a gap between chapters.

Bennet Sheckells

The thing we learned from runes is that the red sun’s energy likes to be guided and grow on it’s own, and destabilizes and disperses if forced into a certain shape. So naturally, you would have to guide the energy into becoming physical to make a physical energy storage and… oh wait, that’s what creates runes. So naturally, you have to let it come to be even more naturally than just guidance. You have to let it grow into a physical object 𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘰𝘸𝘯. It will only retain shape and physicality if you don’t interfere with the process at all. The key, I think, is that the red sun’s energy can already become physical, but is unstable, specifically in the case of the explosive seed. Simultaneously, the more natural it is, the more stable it seems to be. So if you let it develop entirely naturally, it should be entirely stable. The issue is that this leaves it entirely up to chance. You put wood energy into a tiny ball and fill it with red sun energy that constantly runs through it bouncing off it’s wall, and every second that passes it’s just random chance wether the red sun energy looks at the wood surrounding it and think “I should do that” so it could take 1 second or 1000 years, with an average of a month or ten or something. THEN you have to nurture it into growing and ripening (actually storing energy and not just forming a physical base to) and that might take a while depending on the size of the fruit and the density of energy you want to store in it. In fact, how MUCH energy you COULD store in it would depend on it’s precise structure, determined by chance at the start, and naturally modified by the density of the energy actually put in determined by cultivation stage. Alternatively, or simultaneously, it could depend on your fundamental rune’s (and possibly elemental conversion rune’s, though probably not as that rune’s purpose is singular) design, as different designs can promote stability and have different effects on the nature of the processed red sun energy. Even if minute, these could have massive effects on the specific way it crystallizes, increasing or decreasing storage capacities. Finally, while the energy fed to the created fruit should be as dense as possible, having denser energy create the fruit might not be beneficial. It could simply make less space for more complicated structures, but at the same time increase the chance of those structures forming in the first place since there would be more energy that might choose to follow the element’s example, or just by chance form the correct shape with/within the element. This could make elders factories and initiates delicate crafters, though I imagine the elders would simply buy the fruits/objects made by initiates to feed with their own energy, which would be an interesting reason to have initiates in the first place (we still don’t know why they do) although certainly not the cannon one.

Bennet Sheckells

Alright that’s their creation, not their discovery and usage. They would naturally only be discovered by elder Molric, as only he has ever had the idea of using the red sun’s energy in anything other than the rigid lines of runes, of not strictly conforming it to certain shapes, and also the only one crazy enough to think that letting the energy go wild, something that has only ever been supremely unhelpful, could be beneficial. The usefulness of this would multifaceted: first as a cultivation resource, consuming the fruit/object would give you energy processed by someone with higher attunement and energy density, allowing your cultivation to take inspiration. The second would be talismans. Shaping the area that the container can grow into the shape of a rune, and then making the energy flow instead of be stagnant for activation, since completely stagnant energy like in one of these things wouldn’t know where any other piece of energy is, as they aren’t interacting whatsoever. This would require an object that circulates the energy in the correct patterns on it’s own when prompted and never stopping once started unless destroyed, which rune activation would be, to be easier than drawing a rune, which would mean you couldn’t use runes above your rank, which would be USELESS! Naturally, this would require a different structure than the previously mentioned cultivation materials, and thus it would be random chance wether you got a fruit that channels energy on it’s own or is stagnant. If it did the former, absorption of higher cultivation energy would be impossible, since once you disturbed it it would flow either into the air and dissipate, or into you TOO FAST and kill you. Because of this, these two types would be mutually exclusive, which is an incredibly neat system, since otherwise no-one would waste time using talismans… if not for one of the parts I’ll talk about in a minute. However, that might not be how it works, the energy might just be able to tell when it’s in a rune, and in that case you would need a division in the rune, a line having a small break, where it doesn’t connect, and activation might be bridging this gap with supplied energy.

Bennet Sheckells

The last part of usage is more nuance in the cultivation area. After all, if you eat a fruit made by someone else, you consume energy from someone with a different fundamental rune than you, and your cultivation taking inspiration from that isn’t always good. Someone with a different element would just kill you. Someone with the same element but different motifs would depend on the complexity for both fundamental runes and how close in effect those motifs are. The more complex their rune, the more things to take inspiration from, higher chance for negative side effects including but not limited to instant death. The more complex your rune, the less sway any one change has, decreasing risks. The more differences and the more different the effects of the motifs are, the worse, the more similarities and similarities in the effects of the motifs, the better. At absolute best, identical runes of any complexity will never cause issues. It is VERY important to note, however, that your energy will ALWAYS take inspiration from the other person’s rune, the roulette is just how harmful it might be, and you always have to meditate and spend time realigning you energy to YOUR rune, essentially working out the kinks. Finally, this process reduces… creativity. Individuality in your cultivation, if you will. I assume that people come to revelations or make their own resonance with the sun, but this makes you be carried along someone else’s path, which is always harder to trailblaze forward on than the one you made on your own.

Bennet Sheckells

However, all of this has been theorized under several important assumptions that might not be true. The first is physicality itself. The red sun’s energy is volatile, and does not like being constrained to one shape, especially not physical form. Yes, natural shapes have worked so far, but what if it simply doesn’t reach as far as physical manifestation, even if you let the energy do EVERYTHING on it’s own? We have elemental essence too, but we haven’t seen evidence that you can use it to further stabilize red sun energy. You might need some other type of energy to stabilize it enough. Second, who says red sun energy even can be stabilized to that point, by anything? Or more accurately, what if completely stabilized red sun energy simply can’t form physical objects, and physical objects simply can’t hold red sun energy stabily? They might simply not be compatible. Alternatively, the energy simply can’t form all of the necessary parts for a physical structure, but could conjoin with another to d make one? If elemental essence doesn’t qualify, then what about blue sun energy, qi, soul essence, physical essence (it’s that one it’s obviously that one) or the energy in the fruit of the world tree? Or something we haven’t discovered yet? The second is naturalness. What if this gravitation towards naturalness, or rather correspondence between naturalness and stability is just because of the MC’s abilities, talents, disposition, or the world tree he has, or the wood element specifically, (and) or his fundamental rune using the most naturally geometric shape in existence? Then my idea is somewhat out the window! Then there is of course that we don’t know what components are even necessary for skybound cultivation, or runes in the first place! Like, do they have to be created with the purpose in mind? Is a human component necessary? Can attunement even be ‘learned’? Could you make the same thing just by teaching a fruit-bearing plant to cultivate like elder molric is slowly working his way up to doing? How would the blue sun fit into all this? These are all question that the answers to are necessary to determine if this is even implementable into the story to begin with. I hope, dear writer, that I am not MASSIVELY over complicating a thing that needs like fifty sentences to explain in it’s totality. If none or only some or only most of these thing have ever been thought about by you before, PLEASE take as much time as you need to meditate on the metaphysics to decide if this would work or not, and in what ways, and most importantly when in the book it would be discovered by elder molric and our dearest MC, or just elder molric, but I highly doubt molric would be able to discover this without MCs help. Blue sun energy, introduction to soul and physical essence which they don’t know exist, and maybe on their own if neither of those are required. Final note: if the stabilization gravitation is element specific, that would just mean each element would have a specific storage object creation method. (And rune associated with it) though they would already have different ones expecting their element if we were going the whole naturalness = stability rout. Earth=mineral formation, ice=crystallization, fire=ignition, and so on.

I wonder how this idea’s word count compares to the word count of the chapter in fraction comparison form. Too bad I’m FAR too tired to do math after spending what I think is multiple hours right after when I SHOULD have gone to sleep writing this monster of an idea. Oh wait no I’m not humans can easily be awake for 24 hour at a time. Give me a minute…

Bennet Sheckells

1990 words. In the chapter. 1907 words in my comment and replies excluding this one. They’re THE SAME. I can’t believe this! I moreso can’t believe that I’m not going to write 83 more words to make the ratios exactly one to one! Oh wait, yes I can! Humans are inherently lazy creatures, and do not like devoting themselves to a difficult task that requires commitment. No normal person would spend time on something so pointless… wait… ****

What about a storage rune? Basically a storage ring, but in rune form. It might have interesting effects on the inner world.
