It probably helps that they only won because he was forced to use a power that if not for the blood healing that followed would have guaranteed a multi day coma and quite a bit of medicinal help to heal his body. They were guaranteed to die if not for him, plus since no one would have expected the blood to help heal him it means they know he did a sacrifice play with no intention of surviving the consequences, tends to make people appreciate you more.
