I think he needs more plant varieties. They could also propagate more easily than an animal and provide value in a number of ways. Its also whether or not he wants this creation to be reproducible on its own or through him making more.

There's all sorts of things he could add, but for something that improves things he already has... something like bees are probably the most important. Need some pollinators to support his garden. Can always get creative in a magical way with what does the actual pollinating.

Moss? It's a plant that can grow on literally anything and with how his cultivation has strong ties to nature he probably would benefit from more life everywhere in his inner world. But that's my idea, the bugs are also a very good one

I would go for some sort of super organism like a mycelium network or one of those birch "forests" that are really just one birch organism with a massive network of roots and outgrowths. I think baking in massive growth potential while also providing a supportive/unifying network that can spread across the world would be the most advantageous

Everyone is so focused on the practical. One they he doesn't have yet is Sound. He has Musical Qi but nothing that sings in his world. How about a Song Bird or at least an insect that makes noise.
