Seeing the eventual chapter that we get the otp is pretty much all thats keeping me going these days. Great chapter, gory/desperate fighting, bit of relationship progress. Thanks!

Certainly not the way I would have expected Belcourt to go. But it's not like Lucian and co had a chance to defeat him at this point were Belcourt fully focused on fighting them rather than destroying the fortress. Still, with how Belcourt has been hyped up since his first appearance, not seeing what he was actually capable of is slightly disappointing. That said, the only real question about this sequence of events is why "someone who wore the flesh of angels and demons both to serve himself alone" was so willing to sacrifice himself. Killing the Golemancer could certainly prevent a strategic setback for the demon forces, but it's not like it was a matter of the overall victory or defeat.

The first emperor's servants show an unnatural level of loyalty to him, especially for selfish demons. It might be a unique ability that the emperor has. Right before this, Belcourt went to the first emperor for advice on how to handle things, and was immediately sent here. The suicide plan had to be premeditated, so it was at least a backup. This might have just been the first emperor throwing Belcourt away. Also, kind of crazy how the Golemancer didn't see any of this coming, seeing as how he can read minds. All he needed to do was ask like ten questions, and he could probably either sus out that Belcourt was prepared to do something malicious, or at least trying to hide something from the Golemancer. Maybe the Golemancer was just too greedy for something to pressure Lucian.
