Okay, you had less than a day to wait, but here are the next three chapters of Quest Academy. I really hope you enjoy them. I was able to sleep more than five hours last night, and I'm now in the swing of things. I'll see you all on Monday for the next batch.

Let me know if you come across any issues with these. Thanks for the lovely comments and the great discussions on the Discord. I've really enjoyed reading your impressions of the story. :)

All the best,
Brian

Damn it you cant do this to me its 11pm, i have work at 6..............sigh

James coe

Thanks for that super effort

BrianJNordon

I honestly felt like the cliffhanger wasn't good enough yesterday, so I wrote more, just to twist the knife <3

JP

I mean, if you can do this in less than a day are we really seeing enough chapters per week :p

BrianJNordon

It's the deadline effect. It's always a coin flip of what breaks first, my sanity or my pace. :)

JP

Haha. I can fully sympathise. Thank you for the fast turnaround though!

Scott Gable

Death shirt 2.0 has been created, YAY!!!

Heather Herren

But it’s awesome. Upgrade needs to see that battle suit!!

Charles Gillentine

O e of these days, Sal will actually TEST something first lol

Dawn Zeleznik

Thanks for more! It was just what I needed after working all night. May I ask, I thought the tower trial stuff was delivered to the auction house. Why doesn’t he load Arkwright with all that?

Can I say I like the story I love the story but I have my issues. Continue to do what you do right how you write and be who you are Don't take my criticism as anything more than my thoughts put the page because I read thousands of stories and if I'm not liking it I can just read another one but that being said my problem with this story is that it gets lost in it seems and has a false sense of buildup. We'll spend five chapters in one scene talking about pretty much nothing but character interactions and then alluding to going to a dungeon and then when we arrive at a dungeon it'll take less than half a chapter and then we're back to 10 chapters of character interactions. It gives me a sense of anticipation and then when we get to that anticipation it stills away any gratification I get for having patience. Maybe this is not the type of story where you are supposed to have a ton of action or anything like that but I just feel like dungeons were made to be more than just half a scene especially when a 2-hour dinner takes like 12 chapters

Aaron edison

Naw man Fabi is my favorite character ever. Imo she beats Hoid from the cosmere

Alteron

Thanks for the chapters, wonder how he is going to solve the essence problem, could he do the drain effect from the sniper rifle?

Justin Peters

I think shoring up the 40% loss rate of reclaimed zones would be a great place for Sal's guild to start. It gets his whole guild in the field with some combat but with a focus on building and helping people actually have more safe space

Fast Lance

The pacing is really slow, I like the series but there’s a huge pacing issue in my opinion

Charles Gillentine

I kinda hope they keep the playful banter up. It would be hilarious if he slowly improved her car every time they used it just to mess with her. "Was the ride always this smooth?" "Didn't the doors used to creak?" "Were the controls always this intuitive?" It would be hilarious!!!

Chainfire69

I like the premise of the suit Sal is currently wearing and the fact that it's so powerful that he can't use it for more than a few hours/minutes at a time. This makes Sal seem more what a freshman at Quest Acadamy would be like powerful and weak simultaneously. Pluss his naiveté with what extremely powerful items he can create, expects to be able to use and can't properly I feal is realistic to what the Average teen at 18 would be like. I know this must be a hard knife edge to balance upon. I appreciate the effort you are applying to advance the story and the characters at a good steady pace.

PrimordialJay

Thanks for the chapters! I honestly almost skipped these because I thought they were the ones I was currently reading.

Frilas Gilneas

It’s great to see Sal realizing his obsessive over-reliance on Arkwright, which, to be honest, shouldn’t have been able to craft the suit at this stage in its evolution. This brings us to the suit and one major character break for Sal and Fabi. They are crafters, and yes, I’d be super excited to try out a new creation too, but they would at least check the item summary from Arkwright’s crafting report. This report should give them an idea of the suit’s functions and abilities, yet instead, we get a vague "Oh, it’s all separate, legendary-graded parts with unique abilities," without actually looking into what those abilities are. What we do know is that the Argento set focuses heavily on damage absorption and self-replenishing essence. Adding the ultimate upgrade should mean we retain at least the old functions along with the new essence control/enhancement functions. None of the suit’s abilities activate until he enters the dungeon (ambush was 1 use 1 cost and weapons are gone to), so its current essence cost is only from the manifestation of the set, which is self-sustaining. Passive essence consumption: 0%. (Remember, the Argento set was created after he almost killed himself using internal essence with the shirt in Book 1 and now uses only external essence.) In the dungeon, I honestly expected exactly that to happen, but the way the suit actually performed made no sense. Dominion is the primary function of the suit, supported by automation, which clearly states it’s using inherent dominion functionality. By that logic, there should have been no essence wave. Instead, we should have seen something like one sniper rifle firing 21 times, 21 rifles firing once each, or weapons being created directly at target locations—all theoretically with the same upfront essence cost as an essence wave. What’s also definitely missing is the recovery of essence from targets as the suit is supposed to have . Overall, the interactions between Fabi and Sal feel very natural, and the highlighting of the differences between Figment and Mythcrafter is well done. However, given how open Sal is with all his knowledge, it feels odd that he hasn’t told her about the ranks beyond Mythic. It’s very clear that Figment’s limit is above Mythic rank, yet she keeps speaking as though Mythic crafts are the pinnacle. Sharing this knowledge would actually make for a better cheer-up than the back-and-forth about the Mythcrafter’s blueprint creation feature. It’s also very disappointing how the now legendary-grade visor is almost exclusively used by others; it’s always, “Here, take a look yourself,” and even the promised self-check in the mirror never actually happened.

Rishain

thanks for the reply, will edit the post next time so that is actually readable lol. however it all boils down to the build up taking to long and not being equal to the pay off.

Nate

i was kind of hoping Upgrade would be there for Sals first Mythic grade project.

Frilas Gilneas

first one was the sniper rifle they build, scond one the visor that was created as a mythic and then revers evolved until he could craft it and divinitys crown is the first not planed celestial/divine one.

Nate

I meant mythic grade off the bat no evolution

T W

Although I somewhat agree with this, where it lacks now is the dominion suit is rare that emulates legendary gear, sure it's strong.. however.. he has already made several legendary items that people weaker than him are wearing constantly, he had the cloak made for himself and immediately gave it away, his uniform, the visor etc .. all strong in their own rights to go from strong to only very temporarily strong makes little sense, especially when he had the ability to kill 21 leechers with a visor revolver combo in the tower in no time at all, the suit arguably is worse than those rare items at the time

Tim Walloch

Thanks for the extra chapter drop!

Alteron

Should there not be an exit scene for the dungeon, for payment of the tax?

Darnell Maxwell

1) God, watching Sal do a dungeon run is like watching a new dark souls player fully equipped with end game items from the dlc, be terrified of the knights in Limgrave. At a certain point this shit is just pathetic. Bro didn't even see a living leecher yet and was already shaking in his boots. THIS is why I agreed so heavily with Upgrade's brother. I'm not saying every crafter should be on the front lines and soloing towers. But bare minimum, every crafter should be able to solo a leecher dungeon with an uncommon ranked weapon. Ability or not. If Fabi can build stuff to solo towers without an ability, the rest of these crafters have no excuse. Sal included. They are slow moving balls of vines that gradually try to kill you. What could possibly make you afraid of these things. (Also I don't think Sal's cowardice is bad writing or needs to immediately be rewritten. It just gets annoying) 2) Oh so he was skipping class. I thought we just montaged through his other classes off screen. 3) Glad Sal finally admitted that he gave Rochelle the coat. Not a single person on this app believed he was ever gonna get that coat back. 4) "I'm an idiot" Been saying that since book 1 Sal. 5) Drone thing is a great idea Sal. 6) I'm starting to think he's never gonna touch the rest of those elixirs.

Darnell Maxwell

Sal doesn't like to think. But in reality it's because he genuinely enjoys crafting. If he gives everything to the Arkwright then he'll have no choice but to use it to build. If he keeps it all in the crates downstairs. He can choose whether to craft it himself or let the Arkwright do it.

Darnell Maxwell

Nope. Gives us plausible deniability. This way we can't accurately keep track of how many materials Sal has in reserve and they can increase or decrease based on what the plot needs. Raw numbers and taxation rates will just bite you in the ass later when a fan with too much time on their hands adds it all up to calculate just how much money Sal is wasting.

STANSTAN42

Good job on twisting the knife. Also Fabi's car needs a name. No way with that many people working on it it doesn't have one.

Dawn Zeleznik

I did think he wanted to craft with it, but with his nature I thought he wouldn’t feel comfortable keeping it while Fabi was donating so much.

km272727

Much agree on point 1, it made sense at first to be scared (in book two) but hes literally took down a hulker with his bare hands. There was absolutely no reason for him to feel nervous about going into a fucking leecher dungeon 😂

Sean Shivers

Absolutely brilliant line: "argento shut the fuck up and listened." Obviously better stated than that. I get really sick when male protagonist has a more experienced person in their life that the author has the protag explain stuff to... when the side character SHOULD know it better than the protag.

Lumpenhans

If the first joint large and successful guild project really is the drone project. I can only imagine it with upgrade as a babysitter. While chadfield is in the corner lusting after sals inventions and occasionally saying why you need this feature and the other feature is useless.

Naotsugu97

Most excellent chapters dude! Party on!

Robert Crews

I need the next book please

Chris Collins II

Lol. So Sal did end up crafting the big assault rifle to just stand at the entrance and kill everything.

Fortunis

Yeah, this is fantastic. They absolutely need the manufacturer portion of his crafting station. It absolutely needs space to be as large as possible. They absolutely need to start mass production of Mythdrones capable of killing and harvesting Demons in job lots 😆 🤣. Given Sal's abilities by the time he has a small army he could be reclaiming entire zones by himself and using the recovered loot to fund his support guild. Steam rolling the world for the win.
