Hey Everyone,

Edits this week made me a little slower than usual. I'm still working through them, but hoping to have four chapters for you next week. I'll be heading over to the UK with two author friends on the 14th of February. Andrew Givler that wrote Ironbound, and Ryan Cahill that wrote the Bound and the Broken. Gonna potentially meet Joe Abercrombie and John Gwynne which is pretty exciting. :)

This weeks chapters might come off as a little slow, but we're moving straight into the construction of the Sovereign Drone which should be a bit of fun. I'm keeping things as social as possible between characters.

Thanks to everyone that leaves their feedback and comments. If I don't respond to a message with offered corrections, it's likely that it's been pointed out already from a previous commenter. Also, there's been a lot of incoming messages for the proposed characters, and I've already started conceptualising how some will be incorporated in the future.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and that you enjoy these chapters.

Brian

In Ch 8: "You were there for most of Athena being constructed..." Sal says this to Fabi. Coach was the one who was there for the construction of Athena. Fabi only got involved after Sal revealed it to her and Upgrade and the two of them took over the Ess Pro review and update when Sal voiced his concerns about security.

I can’t wait for the moment they release their self-replicating, self-healing death drone into a red zone. The other guilds don’t stand a chance. World Domination is possible through the drone army. Down with the demons!

Those were some very good crafting chapters. All I can say is "Please, sir, I want some more"

John Curtis

I am glad they are doing the drone and can't wait to see what it becomes along with the refuge. I hope Sal can get over his self doubt the mental self whipping when he doesn't think he is doing enough gets old. He should pull the advisors, Berry, and Divinity in and tell them that if they think he is screwing up to speak up then not worry about it. As Berry put it the stuff Sal made for the guild puts them into a better place than any other guild.

Thanks for the chapters, looking forward to the continuation.

Did fabi and prime just invent flubber?

Dawn Zeleznik

Excellent chapters. I love the character interactions.

Chris Pickard

do you have someone in your life that hates spiders but loves to read becouse you sure like the spider theme drones lol

Ron Blondeau

Super great chapters, not slow at all. Having Sal interact with others is really helping mature his character. Its nice to see Fabi back in the story. I have to reread these chapters a couple of times to process them. Very well done. I am looking forward to the meeting regarding the harbour city project. Be kind to Vector!! Garrett's comment on a drone army making the guilds look bad opens up a possible political issue. Guilds make money killing demons. The drones, while possibly winning the war, will reduce the guild's revenue and make them redundant. However, from a strategic viewpoint, the drones could be used either as a reaction force for demon incursions or as a portal invasion force. The guilds would possibly be better used as drone backups or as a portal scout and attack force. Taking the war to the demon's homeland/ dimension might be the best use of the guilds.

Love the chapters. Honestly, Sovereign drone in the red zone .... is a series on it's own. Mix of Azimov ( three laws of robotics etc.) and Bobiverse( self replication and iteration of personality) , with the brutality of Jackal . I know it is outside of the scope of this story, but it is still fun.

Bill Hilliard

Now that you mention combining those I love this idea! Totally could be a great spin off for Fabi and Upgrade. A drone with free roam in the red zone that has the Bobiverse personality sounds so good! Pretty sure Brian has PLENTY of spare time to start this asap! 😂😂

Did Fabi just invent Flubber?

Ahh, I finally caught up. I just discovered Quest Academy a few weeks ago. I have been enjoying the quirky journey. I do have some questions though. I have started to reread the first book and it reminded me that Sal's family had to take the train through the Red Zone to get from Silver Sanctuary to Quest Academy as the safest way between reclaimed zones. That made me think that Silver Sanctuary and Quest Academy were in separate zones, but later on there are several car and taxi rides back and forth with no mention of the Red Zone? What did I miss? When Sal created Jackal he was worried about the skin tight fit on his arm. Then he started gaining strength and muscle. I don't remember any mention of the fit changing. Also, I was wondering about how the Death Net would play with regular barriers. If it grew out to touch a regular barrier, would it keep going and gobble up everything in its path? Finally, I was bouncing off Barry's idea of a training center in the Venture area and thought having an academy for the kids that includes Silverson Arts training would be a good start to reducing the overcrowding on the cruises and gaining goodwill - but Brian probably has a better plan. :)

Von Neumann replication is exponential. The grey goo concept is truly terrifying. Don’t think they know what they’re doing if they’re even considering it. No level of programming is perfect and even one mistake could eclipse the current monster threat. Single stage replication would be safer. Sovereign can create drones, but they can’t manufacture. Would still have to be a hardware lock on sovereign though to be safe. Come on Sal. Don’t make the biggest mistake of the series yet! 🤣 Fun chapters, thanks. Glad to see them getting back to this project.

Rook

If a sovereign can make another sovereign each week it takes 20 weeks to reach 1 million drones. After a year there would be 4.5 quadrillion.

Justin

I think the train is the safest way to travel through red zones if you are not rich enough to have a flying vehicle, or that was my take.

Chapter 8 and 9 stoped working :/

Dlandis

Hope the trip is going well, I read Andrew's Ironbound and it was gooood.

About what time do chapters post?

Zac Crow

Friends dont mooch.

Jack

Just got to these. Love mad scientist Fabi.

LadyLark

Ummm. Why is Upgrade upset about the Drone cutting up Demons while still alive. When she was perfectly fine with Slinky doing that at the end of the last book?
