S7E4 Fun fact: actor who plays buck actually said in some interview that "he was gonna play buck as bisexual anyway"

EPISODE 4: Do you think Buck was in denial when he said it was Tommy’s attention he wanted? Like is it possible that Buck is jealous that Eddie’s hanging out with this hot guy? or is Buck projecting onto a guy he barely knows because of how much Eddie was paying attention to him instead of Buck? I feel like the episode did complete 180 in that regard.

S7E5 Questions: 1. Which coming out conversation did you like better, the one with Maddie or Eddie? 2. Do you think Tommy was correct in thinking Buck was not ready? 3. Do you think it's a leap for Buck to ask Tommy to the wedding? 4. What do you think happened to make Eddie and Buck arrive at the wedding dressed like that and without Chimney. 5. Do you think the rest of the team will react the same way to Buck dating Tommy as Eddie and Maddie did?

episode 4: i am very curious if you like the idea of tommy for buck or not? it's def a controversial pairing within the 9-1-1 fandom, mostly due to tommy's past as not being the nicest guy. a lot of people (me included) aren't as inclined to forgive him for his past trangressions against hen and chim - and it does not seem like buck is aware of exactly what went down back then. i highly recommend going back and rewatching hen and chimney begins to refresh yourself on who tommy was at the 118. do you see buck and tommy lasting?

Episode 4: Tim Minear returns as showrunner in S7 after last having this job in S4. Oliver Stark has said that originally Buck was supposed to be made explicitly bi towards the end of S4 but Fox shut it down. This would have put that revelation around the time of the sniper arc when Taylor was around but they weren't dating. How do you think this character progression would have played out in S4? Also, given that there was a lot of chaos and rush with 911 suddenly switching from Fox to ABC for S7, leading to the shortened season, why do you think it was so important for Tim to make Buck officially bi 4 episodes into his return? Tommy's actor also did an interview where he said that originally they were thinking about Tommy and Eddie being the ones to date first. Does this shed any interesting light on some comments from earlier in this season (like Buck remarking to Eddie that he's never seen someone turn off a woman so effectively) and Tommy's and Eddie's elaborate Vegas hang-out?

Episode 4: Fun fact. As of its airing, 7x4 was the episode where Buck said the word "Eddie" the most (11x), beating his previous record in Eddie Begins (7x). Do you think it's interesting that the things that Buck knows about Tommy are primarily things he and Eddie share (the love of cars, muy tai, "Eddie was in the army!")?

Episode 5: With Buck's whole "I'm an ally" slogan, it's clear he's still engaged in some amount of self-denial when it comes to his identity. And yet, he came out to Maddie pretty casually, with his biggest concern being Eddie. Why do you think he's so worried about lying to Eddie specifically? Is there a possible double meaning to Maddie's "You're just not sure of your own feelings yet..." and "If you have something to tell Eddie, you will. In your own time."?

Episode 4 1. This full episode is what we call a POV episode, which the majority if not all, is written and shot from a characters point of view and as result what we as the audience see is largely informed by the person. This episode being Buck. Knowing what we know about Buck, do you think he is a reliable narrator? 2. Buck has made it a point to emphasize in the past that those who know him call him Buck. How do you feel about Tommy referring to him as Evan, even as others say Buck around him? Do you think Tommy will even call him Buck? 3. DISCUSSION: We love Ravi in 911 and we love the purpose his character has. Ravi, in literary terms, is a “straight man”. He plays that role for the audience to point out things that should be noted. In the past, he tends to highlight the weirdness and codependency of the 118 and, in this particular episode, he is the person that puts into perspective how grand of gesture it is to fly a friend out to Vegas, especially in a helicopter. He’s also the person to question how Tommy suddenly got inserted into this dynamic seemingly overnight. In my opinion, he brings to the forefront how Tommy being inserted into this dynamic is something to note. 4. What do you think of Tommy’s actions towards Eddie before Buck even became a person of interest? 5. What do you think is Maddie’s takeaway from the whole Buck spiraling about a calendar and questioning Christopher? 6. It seems to me that Eddie keeps inviting Buck to basketball, even though Buck hates it. Why do you think Buck wanted to go now? Seems to me like Eddie just wanted Buck to be there and just share things with him. 7. Do you think Buck was jealous of Eddie or jealous of Tommy? 8. DISCUSSION: Buck Amazon Primed a basketball to the firehouse lol #BuckUnhingedMoments FUN FACT: In real life Oliver loves basketball and is actually very good at it. Also, as many have pointed out, yes the actor that played Tommy did say in an early interview that this storyline was either going to go to Buck or to Eddie, so he didn't know who he would be playing against. With the shortened season, I think it made more sense for it to be Buck as there was less time to dig deep to establish this journey...it would be more believable. IN SEASON CONTEXT: As some have stated, Tim Minear is back as showrunner for this show and we both love and hate it. Tim tends to think of big episode hits and puts his full focus on that and sometimes the details on how we get there or how things are resolved get very "hand wavy". But he does understand the characters, in my opinion, and their motivations. It's what made season 3 so good. However, this season in particular was described during filming as "the train is going but we are still laying down tracks". there were very long days and scripts that were not complete until they started shooting it.

Episode 5 I personally don’t want to shape what you think about Tommy. I want you to come to your own conclusions on him based on how he acts now, and share them with us. Yeah he did a lot of problematic things in the past, but we don’t know if he’s ever apologized for them. From what we know Hen and Chim at least trust him enough to work with him. I think they do plenty to show you who he is now as we one forward. Tommy at the very least, is a pivotal person in Buck embracing who he is fully. A wake up, so to speak…although poor Buck saying it’s normal to check out another’s dudes ass haha So with that said, here are some questions: 1. The title for this episode is “You don’t know me”. What is one thing we’ve learned about each other characters highlighted in this episode? What have we learned about Marisol and Tommy (our ‘newer’ characters)? 2. How do you feel the dates at the restaurant turned out? -Eddie saying Marisol moving in -Tommy’s closet joke -Buck overcompensating -Marisol saying Eddie has to make more room -Tommy leaving Buck at the restaurant 3. DISCUSSION: I always find it interesting that the next day in talking to Maddie about the date, Buck is “tore up” about lying to Eddie. Not with how the date ended. He then comes out to Maddie and it’s no big deal. He is still stuck on how he behaved with Eddie. Thoughts? 4. Do you think Maddie knows how Buck may or may not feel about Eddie? Especially given how Buck behaved last episode in relation to him feeling rejected. 5. I love Eddie Diaz but he is a disaster with women. By his own admission, he has used them to look after Christopher. More explicitly with going out with Tommy in the previous episode: He asked Buck to look after Chris because he had already had Marisol babysitting twice that week. I asked previously how you thought Marisol would fit into the dynamics already set by Eddie. How do you feel now? 6. How would you feel if the person you’re dating asked you to move in, then tried to stay away from you, and then asked you to move out and continue dating all in a span of a weekend? 7. Eddie says he’s “got a reservoir of catholic guilt lying dormant waiting to be activated”. What do you think that could mean? 8. DISCUSSION: In the coming out scene with Eddie, Bucks little “mhmm” nod when Eddie says “Really?” is so well portrayed. It’s such a small thing but there’s so much vulnerability in that little nod. I remember when I was coming out to the closest people around me in my late 20’s and having that fear of doing it wrong or them not understanding. I was thankfully surrounded by many people who I knew would be supportive, but I was older and I was still afraid they’d believe it was a phase or whatever else my anxiety decided to make me believe. My heart broke in that nod, because I understood what he was putting on the line. 9. DISCUSSION: Not sure how much of it you’ve noticed over the seasons, but Eddie has always been a proponent of giving Buck space to think about what he wants. Often times Buck takes cues from the people around him and runs full steam ahead without checking in if it’s something he actually wants. Relationships the primary example. So Eddie putting it back on Buck and asking him, “What do you think?” Is very important to me to display that Eddie trusts Bucks perception and that Eddie wants Buck to feel like he can be honest about what he wants. 10. So with that cliffhanger…any guesses on what goes down at the bachelor party?
