You say that act two did not take mercy on you and your emotions. No. No, it did not. Then again, the tears this episode weren’t QUITE as obscene as the episode previous, strong though said tears still were. Can’t do anything about the head hurting. The bright lights not helping your head hurting: I know the feeling. Stage lights in a theatre, on top of stage makeup/costumes, not to mention any emotional aspects of a play or musical that you got to perform, the head throbs something fierce; I feel your pain, Jess. You talk about noticing things on a rewatch that you wish you caught before, I think that’s across the board with this show. A highlight of the second act was how Caitlyn did not fully lose herself. Sure, Ambessa took advantage of Caitlyn’s grief for her own agenda, but Caitlyn held on, and she did not let Ambessa twist her mind, heart, and soul until she becomes the very thing she swore to destroy. Love how the action was centralized on the cult hideout, which, when Vi had the reaction to the one guy, I said, “Ah, so I was right about that guy being that one stoolie from last season.” Rather liked how you liked that Viktor largely held onto who he was too, and it showed through his genuine desire to help Vander. Quick sidenote: Viktor doth sport a Cate Blanchett look about him, yes. It gets you when Vi asks Jinx what she thinks they should do. Figured you’d appreciate the conversations the sisters shared. The one part of that is the part that made me sob the hardest, and from the sound of things, nobody else has had a similar experience, was the part where Vi asks Jinx how much, if at all, she remembers their parents. The sibling thing of you ask your sibling about that which only the two of you know about or remember about loved ones long gone. The specific part that shattered the heart was how the sisters have the fond memories and reminiscence of a specific smell. That part of grief and acceptance; no one ever much talks about that. The show eviscerated my heart on that one. Love how you and I had our suspicions about Vi and Caitlyn working together. The scream you let out when Vi pulled off the trap though. I also loved your laugh when she conceded patience not being her strong suit, on that we agree, which hearing Vi give voice to that, made me say, “Finally. Common ground.” Similarly, it was as wonderful as I knew it would be when Vander went up against Rictus, and that line. “Don’t. Touch. My daughter.” Rictus is pretty tough too, and Vander made quick work of him. “There’s always a bigger fish.” as they say. We still didn’t fully address Caitlyn’s feelings after Jinx saved her, though again, your reaction was amazing. Shame Jayce made everything worse by killing Viktor. Quite something seeing your growing realization that Viktor would die. You ask is he dead, my response, “If he’s alive, he’s putting on a hell of an act. Ain’t he?” Leading into the theme of everyone being flawed, tragic people. My favorite line from The Mist, “As a species, we’re fundamentally insane. Put more than two of us in a room, we pick sides and start dreaming up reasons to kill one another. Why do you think we invented politics and religion?” Here, this whole show, the characters that have the best intentions, bring about the worst destruction, and it has made for compelling drama. With Viktor’s demise, yes, Vander is lost to the beast again. The show killing him, you grieved, they bring him back only to kill him again. A pain I’ve felt before. Leading to Isha’s big damn sacrifice. Why did I ever think I’d be ready for your reaction to that part? Loved how you assessed how the brave girl didn’t even fucking blink. And Jinx sees in Isha what we all long fear: Our sins come back to haunt us, and the cost being more than anyone can bear. Just how Isha’s sacrifice to save her family deliberately parallels how Jinx accidentally killed her family out of the desire to prove herself. “And again, it’s like poetry, it’s sort of, they rhyme. Every stanza kind of rhymes with the last one.” And we leave it here before break, hope that is lovely. Concerning act three: I will be shtum until I see the reactions. Mum’s the word. You have my word, Jess. KNEW you would have words about Ekko sitting out the entire second act. Pretty much was one of the first things I thought of upon completing act two, was, “No Ekko this act? Well, Jess is going to be PISSED about that.” For your sake, I hope we see him again. I also still need to get my brother to watch this show. Mentioned it the other day and he’s never heard of it, let alone seen it. This despite the fact that I have told him about the show before as I know he’d love the SHIT out of this show; it’d be right up his goddamn alley. He also is behind on Agatha, and he already knows he needs to see that, for Patti especially. Thank you very much for the most emotional Arcane reactions, and I await the reactions for act three. Until then, Godspeed with your break, Jess.

The Patriot was one of the first "serious" movies I saw in the theater, upon getting old enough to actively seek out more than just basic action and comedy movies, and I haven't seen it since (being all about what a great guy Mel Gibson is will do that), but that line still sticks out immediately upon seeing it. I'd definitely count on Viktor and Ekko both coming back, seeing as they're player characters in the game and thus far the show has been careful not to take any of those off the board (even Vander could just be explained as a prototype Warwick before we get the "real" one, and it would certainly be better than the way it happened with Arthur Fleck).

Bit too young for the theater on that one, though yeah, similar thing on being one of the first grown-up movies I saw that my parents were ok with me seeing uncut and off tv. I recall you said Mel Gibson is one you can’t stomach anymore. I get it. I don’t blame you on that one. When it comes to stuff that he’s in, I am able to separate art from artist, but he IS one of the trickier ones to do that as there isn’t much distinction, and with newer stuff that I’ve caught him in, sometimes only snippets, yeah, there is an unpleasant feeling just from seeing him in shit. The Patriot, you watch for everyone else except him. Big draws being Tom Wilkinson, Heath Ledger, (and that’s still my default image of him,) and ESPECIALLY Jason Isaacs. Plus, John Williams delivered for that film as he always does. And yeah, that line makes an impression, just as in response to the threat of death, Jason’s adlib, “Why wait?” stands out too. Ekko seems likely to come back and live. Not sure on the “Somehow, Viktor returned.”, but it wouldn’t be the most shocking development.

I can still handle the Lethal Weapons and Payback pretty well, because he's supposed to be unhinged in a genuinely off-putting way for at least some of them.

Remember when Heimerdinger was desperately trying to convince Jayce against his accelerated plans for Hextech through his centuries of experience? I'd guess their next conversation is going to be something like "Aren't you going to say I told you so?" "If I were still alive, I probably would. But I did tell you so, you schmuck." The last episode of Act 1 had that ugly close-up of Jinx's mouth saying "We," accusing Vi of betraying her. And now when she says the word, it's in surprise at the possibility that there's a future where they're together again. And I wouldn't have believed it was possible in this time frame either, but somehow they pulled it off. To be honest, I've never been quite as invested in that as some other parts of the show, because I'm enough of a vindictive bastard that I usually just get annoyed at characters refusing to write someone off after even half of what's been between them. But this is definitely the closest to rooting for it I've ever been. So Vi, is that oil in your hair, or are you just happy to see her? I called from the start that they were teaming up just because the conversation was so suspiciously cut off, and that's always how the trope goes. I'm not even saying that's a bad thing; recall Siskel and Ebert's review of A Few Good Men where they say the one big flaw of the film is that we see the lawyers lay out their whole plan for cross-examining Jessup, and then it works perfectly, which leaves no room for interest to build. Although I'm guessing that spit wasn't part of the plan, and Vi was just letting Caitlyn know everything isn't fine between them just because they're working together on this. I'm also pretty sure Caitlyn's brief "you" to Jinx had the same writing issues as the Master wiping out a third of the universe in Logopolis, where there simply isn't anywhere near enough room to properly deal with all the emotions of the situation so they had to just race through it and hope we're on board enough to go along with it. And fortunately, I definitely am. The whole emotional climax here doesn't make sense unless you fully buy the attachment between Jinx and Isha, and Jinx seeing her as symbolic of herself as Powder, which has had to be done without a single word from one of them. And once again, the show makes it look easy. One question haunts and hurts almost too much to mention, was I seeking good or just seeking attention? And I just have absolutely no idea what's going down in the final three episodes, which would be really scary except by this point I trust this crew without reservation.

Considering the situation, yeah, Heimerdinger’s allowed to have a lip on him. Speaks well of Ella how she has the superb line reads of the one word in different ways. The thing of “characters refusing to write someone off after even half of what’s been between them”, my response to it can go a few different ways; it depends on the story, characters, and/or plot. Here it has been done extraordinarily well, and yes, the show has delivered with against all odds, providing the possibility of hope of a future where the sisters are together again. The oil slick remark, I’d imagine Vi would want you to cut the comedy on that one. Similar response to the conversation, and how it clued me in on the subterfuge. Never have fully agreed with the Siskel and Ebert criticism of that part of A Few Good Men. Namely, it didn’t go off perfectly without a hitch as Colonel Jessup does initially put up a good defense to the cross-examination, thus demonstrating that if Kaffee wants to beat him, he has to work for it. And even with knowing the strategy then seeing it play out, the tension is still there of seeing it in action. And Kaffee definitely was feeling the tension, well shown when he chugs the glass of water with his hands shaking. This show does place its trust in the audience with the Logopolis business. It does help that Caitlyn silently conveys that she’s going through a whirlwind of emotions and reflects the audience of not having adequate time to sort through it right away. Shared trust on the showrunners having a good follow through. The show delivered and then some with the dynamic between Jinx and Isha. Made more impressive, as you say, that Isha never says one word. She is the reflection of Powder. Shared thing of having no clue how this is all going to end, though however it goes, it looks like you’re excited to see the show defy gravity just as much as the big movie release this weekend. Hope you enjoy that movie/have enjoyed it if you’ve already seen it.

Ryan

I figured it wasn’t quite bandwagon jumping since anyone who only knows the new movie isn’t going to have any idea what that’s from for another year anyway.
