An acceptable retitling of giving this episode the title of Crowely’s philosophy of “Oh, good God, don’t. Never trust anyone.” Love that you are loving this show, Jess. Jod and the kids have such a fun dynamic. Love how you advise the kids to not be instantly trusting, and like how both KB and Fern are skeptical. Fern’s particularly adamant on just leaving Jod behind. I’m guessing The Holiday is one of her and/or her mom’s favorite Christmas films, and she’s a little pissed off at him for ruining the fantasy by saying that the cottage in said film is not real. Never mind the fact that Eli Wallach is the biggest draw and reason to see that film. KB is solidifying herself as my favorite of the group, and I love that you’re living for her. She’s proving the most relatable, particularly in the trustworthy department, vis-à-vis Jod. I’d be the same in applying Rooney logic of not trusting Jod any further than I could throw him, yet synchronically, it seems, for the time being, you CAN trust his self-interest, particularly as it is presently in line with what the kids are after. And like you observed, he makes the promises as to what he’s going to do for the kids, and he is following through on that. How long that pattern of behavior continues, that has yet to be determined, which is why she’s keeping her Geordi visor locked onto Jod. And as she notes to Fern, they are just suburban kids far from home. Having someone a bit more knowledgeable about the galaxy, unscrupulous or no, would be helpful in certain areas, much though she is in agreement with Fern in not trusting Jod, love that you mention much the same. Concerning the Silvo of it all. See, I didn’t think about Dickie, excuse me, Jod, and Silvo being one in the same until you said something during the first episode, Jess. The idea only occurred when you hazarded the surmise that Silvo was Jude Law, to which the penny dropped as I had my response, as I said, “No, he’s n... IS that Jude Law?” Listened in the reaction, noted the voice did sound like Jude, and realized you were likely dead on the money, and the matter is resolved in this episode. Nice that the show doesn’t make a big thing of it, and just casually reveals it by way of Psycho Pete yelling that the captain has escaped. Since Jod and the kids are the only ones who got loose, far as we can see, who else can this Silvo be? Nobody else, right? This is further confirmed by the legendary Alfred Molina. The power of an unexpected yet fantastic Star Wars cameo in the palm of my hand. Tis glorious. So, I assume that would make him Long Jod Silvo. Long Jod to his friends. To the surprise of no one, you are living for SM-33, (Took me a second to catch the Smee of it all too, by the way.) and you insist that Jod go back for him and are not vibing with the anti-droid attitude The thing about never leaving a man behind is definitely not a Jedi thing, he’s right about that, despite his slanderous rhetoric about droids. Man, the Clone Wars left lots of people prejudiced against droids. Jod does seem to be pushing it more than most. If he persists in his droid prejudice, I can always put in a call to either Matt Damon or John Malkovich, if you like, Jess. I would say put in a call to Alain Delon, but he died back in August. I would assume you would be agreeable to put in such a call as lord you had such a murderous look in your eyes every time he spoke his droid slander. Getting 33 is a priority as murderous droids are very, VERY, VERY useful. Chopper and HK-47 prove that conclusively. The latter droid there are a lot of fond memories of him being so ride or die with the murdering. He’s a good man, HK-47. Good times. Then they go visit Kh’ymm. I assume her being an owl looking creature was meant to be a mild surprise. I say I assume as I did catch an image of a funko of Kh’ymm before the show premiered. Small potatoes in the grand scheme, so, no big deal. A “scoundrel” she says of Jod, I think he likes the sound of that. We further showcase the mystery of the kids’ home, particularly if they speak of Alderaan as if it wasn’t destroyed by the Empire. This provides us with information that this great work/barrier business has been going on for a while. Fara mentioned having grown up the planet herself. Which would explain why Kerry doesn’t use her natural Irish accent, which I was curious about that going into this show, though she does a really spot-on American accent. And seeing as Kerry’s nearly forty-two, this provides another small hint about how long whatever subterfuge has been going on. That being at minimum, this started years before the invasion of Naboo in Phantom Menace, though more probably this has been going on for generations before that. Love the brief space battle with both Fern and Wim showing some excitement and joy, making me yell to both of them, “Great, kid, don’t get cocky!” Wim does sound disheartened by finding out Jod’s shady untrustworthiness. And this is where I hear you on not trying to actively speculate as it’s happening to me slightly at that scene. Namely, Jod defends himself by saying that he never actually claimed to be a Jedi; Wim made that assumption, and Jod never corrected it. And yet I cannot help noticing Jod likewise never actually claimed to not be a Jedi, past or present. He also noticeably never answered the question of how he makes shit float, though I seriously doubt he uses string. Makes me curious is all I’m saying. Maybe it’s nothing. Love how you encouraged KB in that scene. Likewise, we’re content to let the mystery of At Attin unravel, though if I had to guess, as you did: We’re building toward a team-up of Fara and Wendle to get the kids back, it feels like, and it should be awesome. Better still if Fara gets her father in-law, Mike involved. Mike will strike fear into the hearts of the pirates. The pirates will see Mike, take one look and groan, and hit the road for parts unknown. Just another superbly fun reaction to Skeleton Crew. Thanks, Jess.

Well, this was a hoot (I feel bad about myself). During these episodes I had the same feeling as during Transformers One, where the whole thing was so well made and not pandering to younger viewers that I had to forcibly remind myself it was primarily made for kids, and the big twist probably wouldn’t be as obvious to them. But in any case they still give it away here, and Jod should have exchanged the idol and whip with that guy when he had the chance. And it really would have gotten annoying if his selfish behavior continued not cluing the kids in, plus we now get plenty more of Jude Law’s “How the hell did this become my life?” face whoever the kids are at their most difficult. Interesting choice to also give away right up front that the owl isn’t what she seems, which I’d argue wasn’t actually needed but still adds a nice bit of characterization where we know she just wants to stall them, but she’s also so genuinely interested in finding At Attan that she can’t help plugging away at the clues quickly. Alia Shawkat rarely got much chance to really shine on Arrested Development, mostly just there to be Michael Cera’s straight man, but she’s recently been crushing her intense dramatic role in The Old Man, and is totally unrecognizable here so it was a big surprise watching the credits. It’s a real shame she won’t get to team up with Carl Weathers again; I’d love to see them at Star Wars Burger King. One more thing I have to note is the totally casual reveal that KB has two moms, though it’s soured a bit by the recent news that Disney once again told Pixar “Don’t put in any of that gross gay stuff.” I’m not in much of a mood to parse how much is a step forward or back when it should all just be forward.

It somehow just didn’t enter my head at all that it could really be Alfred Molina, and I just thought “Huh, this guy sounds a lot like him.” I guess it just seemed unlikely that they’d stick him in a voice only role upon getting him, though that really just makes it better, showing it’s not all about “Look who wants to be on our show” and he was just the best choice for the role.

Well, don’t feel too bad. Owl’s well that ends well. (Thank you, thank you. I’m here till Thursday. Try the veal!) Like I said, I didn’t catch that Jod was Silvo in the first episode. That thing of I’m not much expecting a twist, so I don’t bother looking for one. Similar to the Emerie reveal in Bad Batch. The idea only clicked when Jess just assumed correctly, and it got revealed a few hours after that the same day. Plus, it’s not like they play it up with the biggest shock value as if nobody could have seen it coming, like how you say they did with the whole ghostly Not Negan thing. No, Jod could have made such an exchange. Problem would be that the guy would sell him down the river whilst saying, “Adios, Señor.” Likewise good point on by revealing Jod’s piratey ways now, you don’t have Wim especially come off as dumb for not putting two and two together. So, it works out nicely. Jude Law does have a good “How the hell did this become my life?” look to him. Good note on the warning of Kh’ymm being shady feeling superfluous, but how yeah, her being surprised by the At Attin mystery provides a nice thing of it kind of derails her efforts to stall which Jod picks up on. Tis a shame that Carl’s not available for the Star Wars Burger King date, though I do hope he’s been doing well in Heaven, having presumably made peace with that damned alligator, thus is hanging out with him, and Abraham Lincoln for some fuck knows why reason. I also loved the casual way they showed KB’s moms. I remember you said loving the non-binary representation in Tales of the Empire where they don’t make any big deal about it. Here, it felt the same. How the show just says, “Yeah, KB’s got two moms. Ain’t no thang.” Which, yes, this has now unfortunately been undercut by the trans character and storyline being cut from the Pixar porject. I heard about that and I’m egregiously disappointed on that one.
