Huh, who knew that the line, “C-Can’t say I remember no At Attin.” would have the potential to get stuck inside your head worse than the Duck Tales theme song, but here we are, I guess. Now the fun Christmas Eve episode. Still depressingly little with the parents, though it is good that they are trying their best to get their kids back. Wendle having such a dad move with hiding the device behind his back was priceless. I roared with laughter over the droid being wise to the act. Good to see you had a nice reaction to that part as well. I like how he points out to Fara that whilst well intentioned, her going by the book hasn’t yielded results, and she may have to start fighting dirty, so to speak, to get the kids back. Preferably by having Mike bringing Gus into this matter. The idea you mention of the supervisor being a droid. Possible. A thought about the supervisor occurs upon seeing your reaction, but I will not speak of it at this time. I shall see how things play out. Nice that they fix 33 back to his old usual (less) murderous self again. We called the ropes not holding him down. Love the group reaction of, “Why did we all agree that that was a good idea?” We now know the ship’s name, though I caught the name elsewhere. I guess this was meant to be a surprise, but since I already heard the name, the Onyx Cinder, the effect is lost on me. Heart does go out to Wim for the fear getting to him. Rather love the series of looks you had when Jod was encouraging Wim to unburden himself of those pesky attachments. Rather curious word choice, “attachments”, very interesting. And most amusing that you too pointed that out yourself, Jess. I greatly anticipated your reactions to the spa of it all. I mean, this place is no Sesska’s Spa, but it looks nice. The proprietor of the establishment seems to be willing to look the other way if she receives a healthy bribe. Or is it, are we calling it a bribe or a retainer? Betsy always keeps flip-flopping with the terminology on that one. Sadly, the relaxation time is cut short because of Pokkit, Kelly Macdonald being in this was a pleasant surprise. The pirates in the courtyard have caught up. The decisions on who to split up with who, Jod losing his patience is me with kids. Love you speak of liking the dynamic of the kids. Richard Donner’s advice really paid off, and nice that they paid tribute to Donner via the name Captain Rennod. Neel continues to be a sweetheart. Fern continues to be stubborn. Worry for KB grew on both our parts as we remembered what her moms said, and she for the first time expresses concern about going through a certain place. We both had the “THAT’S my girl!” reaction when KB pulled the move with the wrench. Me, I said, “All RIGHT, KB!!!” Shared assessment on the Indiana Jones of it all, starting with the “Only the penitent man will pass.” set-up, which when they said “decapitated” a few times, I quipped, “...Decaffeinated?” The music even sounds Last Crusade which was great. Sucks for the other pirates with the acid. I imagine when the chamber refills with acid, Gunter likely thinks, “Uh-oh. Did I do that?” Similar to the betrayal of Cid, Jod’s betrayal whilst a bit of a blow, felt organically done. It does say something, you are correct, when even after said betrayal, you still have some questions about Jod. I will say that I’d be more scared of Jod if he was dancing the coin between his fingers, and if he ever broke out a camera. One thing I note is that he was pretty insistent on getting Fern to yield. He also clues Fern in that his ability to use the Force is real, and that his floaty tricks were not achieved via really thin string, not that that’s a tremendous surprise for us, the audience. This has the additional benefit of demonstrating he could easily fight her and is telling her to just throw the damn towel. Although... See, I’m an asshole in that when Fern yells to Jod he’s a grown up, they’re just kids, hence he cannot fight them, my response was, “...Didn’t seem to bother Anakin all that much.” Adored your reaction to Wim having the lightsaber, and no apologies on the laugh when the move backfired, as I loved your laugh there. It’s a nice effort on Wim’s part though. Good on the kids for giving Jod the slip, and hopefully they have the time to go Home Alone on him in revenge. If they were so inclined, that is. One slight problem with that is that unlike the Wet Bandits, (Or is it the Sticky Bandits?) Jod now has the lightsaber, which he seemed rather comfortable with. And end on that on Christmas Eve night. What a show to do such a thing, and you and I, Jess, are sharing the feelings of just having a grand time with it. Thanks for the very fun reaction, Jess.

That's how Schumann went insane. He got one note stuck in his head, playing over and over. I think it was an A. I initially missed the Donner bit, because I was too busy wondering if I was supposed to recognize the names Rennod and Onyx Cinder from some expanded universe thing, with the weight the reveal is given. But from what I can tell, they're both totally invented for this.

Yeah, Schumann wasn’t quite the Master of the House when it came to keeping music out of his head. It did take me a second to catch the Donner tribute in the name. Never heard of any Onyx Cinder before this show, so, yeah, both captain and ship are new to the universe.

Starting off with just a bit more of At Attin, and the big interesting thing is that even the parents apparently don't have any real idea what the deal with this place is, as it keeps feeling more and more like a Vault-Tec experiment, probably the one with that AI in charge. I've seen some speculation that this is going to be revealed as where the First Order came from, which I very much hope they don't do for reasons I'll get to shortly. All I'll say about the next scene with 33 getting loose is I kind of wish Ahsoka was around to say "I tied those knots, that's my specialty!" What better place to spend Christmas Eve than the Star Wars version of Risa? I rarely cared much for those episodes as they felt a bit too "nudge nudge, wink wink," but this hits the perfect balance for me. Just that early line about how the place is for adults only tells any parents everything they need to know without requiring any awkward conversations with their kids (although I imagine quite a few had to deal with "Yeah, what IS a concubine?"). I also really dug the various hints at just how sleazy the place is, freely allowing Banking Clan and Hutts, and the staff being very willing to accept bribes. It all blends surprisingly well with the more juvenile jokes of the whole "wise elder" thing. But best of all is Nick Frost having a blast with his runner of being horrified at the gentrification, and I'd guess he added at least a couple of those lines himself. I've come to realize one part of the show I'm really appreciating is the lack of what I'm told the kids these days call "Glup Shitto." The only returning character from elsewhere in the franchise is a minor guest star from one episode of The Mandalorian, and everything else is totally new. This was really driven home when Pokkit shows up and I initially thought she was Ventress, and when it turned out she wasn't, I started thinking that as cool as it would have been to see her in live action, and in such a fitting kind of story, it was also a relief that they didn't feel the need to do it. And as a huge fan of Boardwalk Empire, it's amazing to see Kelly MacDonald in such a totally different role. And then it's time for the show to get more Goonies than ever before, at least after a brief stop to share the whole story so far with Stephen Magnet. And once the other pirates show up, there's some really shocking bits of violence, and I'm pretty sure my jaw was open for a good while when Dod turns the acid back on. Followed by Rennod sharing how he sent the whole galaxy after the One Piece, and I regret to say I may have grown up too much, because my immediate thought with the mint reveal was "Yeah, and then they'll all be worthless because you've flooded the market." I'll just have to try to keep that part of my brain shut off. I laughed long and loud at the lightsaber gag, with some very impressive physical reacting from Ravi that has me wondering if he had some kind of physical prop to work with, because if not, kudos to making it look so real. Most interesting of all is that it's now pretty clear that Dod's Force powers are real, and we're clearly getting some reveal with how often it's brought up. I'm thinking he was a Youngling who escaped the Temple massacre, but missed getting picked up by Kelleran Beq's system so he instead fell in with pirates, maybe even Hondo.

I’m liking the question of what’s up with the supervisor. Like Jess is noting, it seems like Fara’s never even seen the supervisor. Presently I have one thought, which I’m not going to say at this time. Right or wrong, I’ll speak of it later, though I seriously doubt that this is where the First Order came from, as we already have the overall picture on that one. Or at least the earliest stages of that picture, anyway. They do have the nice thing of the line of the place is for adults, letting the parents avoid the awkward conversations with their kids. Probably a few of them did have to deal with questions about the concubine line, which, yeah, I’d have a difficult time on that one. Certainly, trickier than my dad having to explain the knockers joke in Young Frankenstein. Good shorthand of showing how shady the place is, and yeah, it does balance out with the comical gags. I suspect Nick in this whole show has been given some free reign with the dialogue. I’ve heard about the “Glup Shitto” business. So far, yeah, nothing major in this show connecting to anything else in the franchise. Vane aside, the Christmas Special’s about the only real thing in that regard, and even some hardcore fans miss that one. Knew Pokkit wasn’t Ventress as the accent wouldn’t match. Great to see Kelly. One joke was when realizing she was a bounty hunter was, “Well, yeah, she never did get that satchel of money that Josh Brolin stole and tried to keep from Javier Bardem, so bounty hunting it is.” I got more a Cthulhu vibe from the one big boy rather than the My Little Pony of it all, but ok. The violence, well, it is eighties film themed, which had some shocking violence at parts. It’s very Indiana Jones meets Goonies. Not to mention Richard Donner also being the director of The Omen and all the Lethal Weapon movies, so the violence wasn’t exactly the most shocking thing in the world, though a bit effectively jarring given how reasonably kid friendly the show has been up to that point. The acid getting turned back on was sick, I loved that, though I was dismayed for Jaleel. That flooding the market thing would be effective karma for the pirates, so the thought would be fitting. I could see the kid either just doing that good a job pretending with the prop, or they had like a foghorn to blare as a signal for him, either way, yeah, it looks good. I more or less just assumed Jod’s Force abilities were real, because if he’s been mutinied against, and locked up as he was, it would be unbelievably stupid for the other pirates to allow him to have any shit to fake anything. That, and he did sound honest when asked why he didn’t just use the Force to get the key earlier, he raises the fair point of then what, he has no method of further escape. I also keep noting Jod dodges the questions of how he could do the floaty shit. And he’s never actually denied being a Jedi. The most he’s done is point out that Wim assumed that Jod is a Jedi, and Jod simply didn’t correct Wim about that. Oh, my brother and I are anticipating, and gleefully waiting for an Order 66 flashback. Assuming age is consistent, I think Jod would be at or around Ahsoka’s age, and a bit younger than Anakin would be if he was still alive. My thought is that he was in a situation like Cal or Kanan, being out in the field when Order 66 happened. And yeah, he somehow missed either Kelleran, Barriss, and/or Quinlan’s networks, and ended up with someone like Hondo. If we’re wrong, we’re wrong, but there’s enough things brought up that I think we’re roughly on the right track, if nothing else. And as Jess noted, we seem to still lack a few pieces to the puzzle, so we’re all just waiting to see how it all plays out.

Well, if you want a Skeleton Crew inspired earworm, I certainly have one for you. However, I cannot post it for you until next week for spoiler reasons. In the meantime I'll just say... "Jee Jee At-Attin Has-pe-vaka Poly-eeka Ooo,ooo, Bunky Dunko Ooo, ooo, Bunky Dunko!" If you know, you know.
