As promised last week, the ultimate Skeleton Crew earworm. Peter Schilling's 1982 hit Major Tom (Coming Home), which was originally released in German, and then translated into English is presented here translated into... Huttese. Performed by lucasfilm sound editors David Collins and Matthew Wood. Matthew Wood has also in the past provided the voices for General Grievous and the battle droids. I couldn't post it until this episode for spoiler reasons. Initiating earworm... https://youtu.be/T2g4F3jNUdo?si=wmxMvwIvG_0c_Zjt Bunky Dunko! ETA: And if I have managed to create a humorous image in your head of General Grievous and the battle droids singing karaoke, as I seem to have done for myself, then my work here is truly finished.

No, Jess, you are not too emotional. This got me really goddamn good last week. Credit again to Bryce Dallas Howard for proving herself an exceptional director, like her father before her. Start with the Jod portion as that’s quicker to get through. He’s back in the tight spot with his old crew. Glad to see Gunter lives still, as I said, “All right! More Jaleel, yes!” Knew you’d be upset over 33 getting shot. I also hope he comes back online and is ok. And I don’t know as the next episode is not until tonight, so I can neither confirm nor deny even if you wanted me to. Again, Jod gets out of the sticky situation by exploiting the guidelines of the Code, complete with that kind of cool lava lamp looking timer. Enjoyed your reaction to old Silvo having the silver tongue with rallying the troops. Tension finally starts to boil over with the kids. Chief amongst them, KB starts to reach her limit, and I’m with you on sharing the appreciation for having her Weekend at Bobby’s moment with Fern, made me say, “Oh, KB, you speak your truth!” Namely, that great thing of how she calls Fern out for not listening or considering. Yeah, Fern says she can’t think of other options at times, but as KB retorts, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any other options. Leads to the slight splitting up, where I think Neel being with Fern helped serve as the wake-up call for Fern as you observed much the same. Climbing would be difficult for Neel with his little arms and legs. It creates much difficulty when playing video games, I would imagine. He can’t press the fire button and jump at the same time. Give Fern her due, she seems to realize much the same and makes the effort to accommodate Neel as best she can. Then there’s the near death of KB, which got both of us bad. There was VISCERAL relation to KB here. The way she describes how although Fern means well in just acting like KB can do whatever Fern can, there are, in fact, genuine limitations. And KB doesn’t want to voice that much for fear of losing what few friends she has, plus, she doesn’t want to be the burden. The autism/neurodivergence metaphors were strong with this one. On top of how KB talks about her physical limitations. Occupational therapy flashbacks abound on that one. Christ, I still can’t even ride a normal bike. Just that whole scene, Kyriana Kratter got me sobbing some. That little lady was damn good. Her whole scene got both of us right in the heart, just as Wim being a sweet boy gets us too. Wim did the work in saving KB. I was very impressed. And yeah, KB calling him a Jedi, it’s enough to make a grown man cry. Shame about the big metal Aragog looking creature that would probably give all the kids tetanus if they aren’t careful. Good moment of Wim bemoaning his rotten luck, trusting people-wise. The reunion was great. Love how both KB and Fern express apologies in equal measure, and they all have the big group hug. Getting away from the spiders is tough, though it helps that KB remembers how to work the ship, on top of now knowing the coordinates back home. Excellent teamwork on all four parts. Then they have to go through with what 33 said not to do, making a man quip, “Excuse me, Egon, you said pushing the little red button was BAD.” Well, in point of fact, it was not a button, and it was more of a toggle, though the point still stands, full circle-wise, like you said. But they have no other choice, leading the ship to shed its shell, and show off how sleek it is. Wim made me cackle when he took it in, and called dibs on the ship. And we end on looking at those crazy hooligans go as they fly off to save their home. And probably figure out the greater mystery. Oh, this reaction was most fun and emotional. Much appreciated, Jess, thank you.

The number one reason why I didn't want to post the Bunky Dunko video last week is because it spoiled that Gunter survived.

Time for the sudden but inevitable Bryce Dallas Howard episode, and I really admire how she's refused to let herself get pigeonholed with the kind of episodes she's called in on. Sometimes it's the hugely important introduction of a popular Clone Wars character to live action, and sometimes it's the Jack Black and Lizzo goofy comedy hour. I'm sure her father was an inspiration there, being the guy who made both Splash and A Beautiful Mind. And this one is especially impressive since there's really not that much going on plot-wise and it lives and dies with how much we've gotten attached to these characters. And it pulls that off with flying colors. Fern's story really spoke to me, since I think I've mentioned before that for whatever reason my hamstrings never tightened during puberty and my legs are much more flexible than most people's. I had no idea there was anything strange about that for years until I took a physical and the doctor was amazed I could put both of them heel-to-ass with zero effort, and there had been quite a few times I'd gotten frustrated at people not being able to move like me, and to this day I sometimes have to remind myself they physically can't. So I very much appreciated this lesson being put onscreen, when I can't recall ever seeing it before. As for the other side of the story, it's fully carried by Kyriana, as just like Ncuti in Boom, the whole thing would fall apart if she ever fails to sell that she's slowly losing all motor function. It's a very tricky thing to ask of someone this young, but she gets it done perfectly. I do wish we could have gotten a bit more foreshadowing for her condition than just a brief mention from her moms, but what we get here works great. And I wish someone could tell her about a guy who looks kind of like her who got stuck in a similar situation, and immediately Macgyvered a pair of climbing pitons. Not much to say about the Jod story, though it's nice to see apparently the goggles did do something for Pirate Urkel. It's all just setting the pieces up for everyone to head for At Attin in these final two episodes, and I'm quite excited that I have very little idea how anything's going to go once they get there. Besides the reveal that Rennod is actually Tech, of course.

It is nice how Bryce is tackling different episodes from the Seven Samurai homage, Bo-Katan’s live action introduction, the Mando hijacking Book of Boba Fett episode, and the Jack Black, Lizzo, and Christopher Lloyd comedy hour. Considering her dad’s versatility, nice to see she’s much the same in that regard. This could have fallen apart if we didn’t get that invested in the kids, but they pulled this off very well. Nice to hear that Fern’s story spoke to you in the way that it did. I also don’t recall ever seeing such a lesson before in any film or show. Yeah, Kyriana, that little lady is proving most impressive. She sold it well how KB slowly loses mobility as she’s shutting down. Hear you on how you say you would have liked a bit more foreshadowing. In addition to the scene with her moms, there IS the episode prior when KB expresses concern about going in the caves and then tries to downplay her worry. I noticed Jess caught that, plus what we did get does work well, as you noted. Oh yeah, one would have liked to have seen someone tell KB about Geordi’s magnificent brilliance in that episode. Still probably would be the same problem as she’d shut down mid-climb and would have almost certainly died. Say they fixed her augments first, that would have helped. Heard some fans make jokes about a lack of waterproofing with her augments. Two thoughts I have are given how closed off At Attin is, possible her moms didn’t have access to the most high-end technology. Alternatively, they need to be resealed and reset every night, and you need specific equipment for that. We are light on the Jod talking points with this one. Nice to see the Urkel nod. There’s one or two specific references to a film he was in that I keep wanting to make, but I haven’t been able to crowbar them in, plus I’m not sure anybody’s going to understand the references. Shared thing of observing how we’re now building to the big finale at At Attin, and little to know idea what to fully expect, save for likely a certain type of flashback scene is presumably on the horizon either tonight or next week. Well, that, and like you’re noting, we have the build-up to the reveal that Captain Rennod is, of course, Tech, somehow returned. Also, he was Snoke.
