This story SHOULD be great because of the return of the 2nd Doctor and Jamie, but it's really not. It's a complete mess and I'll go into more detail after you post part 3.....

"Circular logic will only make you dizzy, Doctor.", Peri, "The Two Doctors" The Sontarans are back! Of course, you could imagine that based on the prolific Classic Who writer (and long-time script editor), Bob Holmes, who wrote the first Sontaran story. Last season's wonderful "The Caves of Androzani" was the last time we had a Bob Holmes script. So the Sontarans are back. And Bob Holmes is back. Did I forget anything? "And what are you smiling at, you, you hairy-legged Highlander?", "I'm just admiring your diplomatic skills.", The Second Doctor and Jamie, "The Two Doctors" Oh, yes! The glorious team of the second Doctor and Jamie are back!! I'm so happy. I adore Pat Troughton's Doctor, and Frazer Hines' Jamie. And I couldn't wait for your reaction to seeing them again. It made my day too! Originally, this story was set in New Orleans and the Androgums, with their obsession with cooking and eating, were created with the city's culinary reputation in mind. However, the setting and location filming were changed to Seville, Spain - ok. And the location shooting was so, SO HOT! "Shockeye, their last supper would have added lustre to your reputation. ... Except that they won't live to remember it.", Chessene, "The Two Doctors" Long time watchers of the wonderful SF "Blake's 7" series were happy to have Jacqueline Pearce, who plays Chessene, appear in a Classic Who. "I have a desire to taste one of these human beasts, madam. The meat looks so white and roundsomely layered on the bone, a sure sign of a tasty animal.", Shockeye, "The Two Doctors" Shockeye of the Quawncing Grig is deliciously played by John Stratton. He had been acting for years (back into the 1940s) - like the black-and-white TV's "Quatermass and the Pit". "What do you do with the poor things when they're dead?", "I mount them in my collection, so that I can sit and admire them.", "Don't you have a television?", Anita and Oscar, "The Two Doctors" I really like these two. One of Bob Holmes's signature traits is the nice interplay of the secondary characters. "Officially, I'm here quite unofficially.", The Second Doctor, "The Two Doctors"

God, what lovely color coordination with the outfit and jewelry, Jess. That top has a great shade of blue, and I like that, the sleeves having that look that they have, it looks nice. God bless your editor for doing the touch up with the title in this story. Like you noted, though, it wasn’t long after the title when the big surprise happened. You say that it took you a moment to ascertain that you didn’t accidentally start an older story. I’d imagine some viewers today, provided they aren’t spoiled, would also likely consider the idea of a flashback. LOVED seeing the penny drop when the shift to color happened, and you realized what’s up. Always a pleasure to see Patrick. Two and Three are roughly tied to round out my top five Doctors, so the love for Two is strong. Likewise, good to see Jamie again. As I see has been commented on already, the basis of this started simply because Patrick wanted to do another story. And his and Jamie’s return seems to be agreed amongst the consensus view as being one of the good things about this story. Again, I see comments made already talking about how this story is not strictly speaking a beloved one. Main point of contention is the writing with the very STRONG stance against eating meat. I’m a vigorous carnivore myself, and I always say that I’m not averse to vegetarianism or veganism if one chooses to live life that way. People don’t want to eat meat, that’s their business. My issue is when people act militant about it and try to force or shame people into adapting a vegan or vegetarian diet. So, naturally, this aspect of the story where the message is conveyed that eating meat is the work of the DEVIL is not something I’m fond of. Worth noting too that these episodes will all air on both patreon and youtube on Fridays during Lent where you can’t eat meat. The final youtube upload ending up on Good Friday this year. Ironic. The message is strongly conveyed via Shockeye who feels like Hannibal Lecter and Bill the Butcher got meshed together with two or three Captain Planet villains. Love your protective nature of Jamie I’m down for the idea of Two beating Shockeye’s ass, then you would leap through the screen and beat his ass as well. A most enjoyable mental image. Dastari’s look was fierce as fuck, yes. The sentiment that you expressed at the one point: I know that you would book it back to the TARDIS so goddamn quick. Hold up in the spa as it’s nice and safe there. Love it how you call exactly when the episode would end. For being not necessarily a beloved story, I like how so far, you are enjoying it well enough. Two being in this likely helps. I look forward to the reactions to the rest of the story. Until then, thanks for the fun reaction, Jess.

It does remind me how people can tell when they know who their favorite Doctors are. When they still get good enjoyment out of a story because they get to see their favorite Doctor or Doctors. Sure, they may get let down with shit plot or shit writing, but the acting is always great. Here, Jess seems to be enjoying it well enough so far, and I’m liking that. See how it goes with the next two reactions.
