A good episode that it is nice to see you enjoyed. A Crowley and Castiel team up has great potential. The Lucifer and Rowena team up, well you have less enthusiasm there. Good on Rowena for getting out of the tight spot. Lucy really slipped up. When Rowena offers to be of great help and use to him, he only promises her, “We’ll see.”, which makes me say, “Lucy, Rowena’s a mom, and like all moms, she knows damn well that when you say, “we’ll see”, that means “no”, and she of all people is definitely going to clock that.”. Hence, Rowena has the perfect excuse to stop playing ball, and send Lucy to the bottom of the ocean. Like you said, maybe not the best move, but it is likely to keep the man busy for a while. I loved your reaction to Rowena’s moment here. I admit that it is immensely refreshing to see it. By that I mean since we’ve met her, the show’s sort of kept pushing how she’s supposed to be this powerful and dangerous witch, yet more often than not, she’s felt all flash and little to no substance. Which IS entertaining to be clear, just not all that threatening. You’ve been upfront on living for her. I’m fine with that. She felt to me like she wasn’t living up to the hype. She got the damn impressive moment here, making me note, “Ok. All right. Not too shabby there, Rowena, not too shabby.” Nice that she offers her help to Crowley and Castiel if needed. Now to Mary. She is going through it. Sam is understandably concerned as he senses she’s struggling. Contrast to Dean who continues to have remarkable denial about the situation. Can’t entirely fault him for it, as he is happy to have his mom back. And it does the great perspective of how the big brother and little brother each have their own way of assessing the situation. I like how you described it’s less that Dean is in active denial, and more that he wants Mary to be ok so that he can just have the untroubled happiness of having his mom back. Particularly when she expresses the same preference in food and music, showing Sam is in that position of being the baby of the family and is the odd man out; brother do I know the feeling well. Rather dark case that doesn’t get much focus, though as you note, it hit Mary something fierce. Culminating in her decision to leave to find herself again. She says what I said last week: She’s been gone the lifetime. Her boys’ lifetime. She can’t get that back, and she expresses here that she’s in mourning for that lost time. We both have the similar thought of you knew the show would dive into that. The surprise being we got it as early as we did. We probably will see Mary again. I don’t know that, but it seems reasonable to presume that we will see Mary again. You expressed great kindness to Mary here, and I found it very sweet, Jess. Other small notes. The opening bit where the couple talked about the avocado toast with the quail egg being genius. Loved your response to that. I hate avocado toast; I don’t see the obsession. Never had quail eggs, so can’t offer anything there. I’m also with Mary on envying Castiel not needing sleep. Lord, that’d be lovely just never needing sleep. Maybe then the mind would stabilize as it never does attain peace even in sleep. I also got a kick out of your advice to Mary, hair cutting-wise. And they addressed Castiel healing Sam’s “S’mores foot” which I was wondering about that. All in all, a solid reaction, Jess, thank you.
