Cards on the table, I don’t watch a lot of this show. I just don’t need that level of constant suffering in my life, so I look up the few episodes that have happy endings and that’s my whole experience. But in the course of that, I’ve seen quite a few fans saying you shouldn’t start with this episode because of how depressing it is, which given the show’s usual tone really scares me.

Well, along with the first two episodes of this season, I’ve only seen the last season myself. Therefore, I don’t have the biggest frame of reference of comparing the season premiere to the rest of the series. But this one does make some of the more depressing Twilight Zone episodes seem downright cheerful by comparison. Hence, if you’re wondering about how downbeat it is, yeah, it makes an impression, downbeat-wise. I mean, if you want to see it and take the chance, that’s up to you. But I would tread lightly with this one as it was a rough one, as Jess described.
