Jess, the number of times you teared up in this reaction, which you made note of yourself, it’s making me observe that this is going to be absurdly destructive to my emotions. Isn’t it? You say that you expect your soul to be crushed, yeah, quite probably that’s happening, yes. Answering the timeline question: we’re at the latter part of season three of Rebels for frame of reference. You are right of course that this show is just such a masterclass of growing dread, naturally, I love it so much. You note how the Ghormans are debating how to go about their actions, and regardless of how they go about it, you already know that the gloom and doom is the forgone conclusion. Tragedy will surely strike true. And much though my brother and I do have great love for seeing the Empire do that voodoo that they do so well, I do not blame you for your reticence to see what is to come. A nice reprieve for you is the appreciation for Cassian and Bix’s nook on Yavin IV, which yes, the planet is looking just the tiniest bit more organized than when last we saw the planet when dealing with the moronic fuckwits at the beginning of the season. Good eye on Draven by the way. The scene with the Force healer getting you as it did is a gut punch. I don’t blame Cassian for rejecting the vision and words. Even if he was more a spiritual man, something like that being put on your shoulders, (on top of dealing with a bum shoulder, no less,) that’s going to be terrifying. Nice to catch up with Wilmon. Mon Mothma’s realizing she’s fighting the losing battle in the senate well shown in her scene with Senator Oran, which, again, you get me pretty good with your reaction there. Love how you called out the ISB plant for being beyond unsubtle yet conceded Erskine’s point about said ISB plant being reliably stupid. Can’t do much to assuage the sickness that you feel over the dread of Partagaz and Dedra beginning the final stages of what is to come. Nice to see that Grymish is a recurring character, mildly distracting though it is realizing that if one had a nickel for every grand maester in the Game of Thrones world who is also an Imperial, we would have three nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened thrice. How you say, Dedra is very good at her job, much though you’re not the happiest about it. Quite love that you do, in your own way, put respect on Dedra’s name on this channel. Cassian’s concern about getting a clean shot at Dedra is going to be the least of his troubles, like you said. Bringing us to the topic of the foils that are Cassian and Karn. You speak well of although they are vastly different people, that they are perfectly structured as narrative and thematic parallels to each other. Cassian being a man who has always been asking questions, always bristling at authority and conformity. Karn by contrast, as you say, has worshiped the Empire. And has held the basic idea that unless he conforms, unless he obeys orders, unless he follows his leaders blindly; then there is no possible way that the Empire can flourish. This has naturally made him susceptible to Dedra and Partagaz’s machinations, and as the dread that you have felt has increased, only now is he getting the bad feeling about this and is starting to ask questions. Alas, as you note, the time for questions has passed. The contrast between Cassian and Karn, how they are the parallel characters of two men fucked over by the Empire, and radicalized in their own respective ways, it has been one of the most engaging arcs of this series. Your words about it here were most terrific, Jess, as was this reaction. Hopefully, you got a nice snack in before seeing the next episode. Best of luck to you with that, and the reaction to follow. Until then, thank you for the terrific reaction, Jess.

The suspense is terrible. I hope it lasts. Not least because that'll mean we haven't reached where this is going. I think of Kurt Egyiawan more for the sorely underrated Exorcist series. Absolutely worth a look for fans of the movie; just don't look up anything about what actually happens in it.

Yes that guy give Cassian some of the dirty jobs to do in Rogue One, he's one of Mon Mothma's right hand men, and in those scenes we hear a call out for a General Syndulla and see our favourite little Choppy Chop Chop in the background grumbling away too! And we see The Ghost fighting in the air too. Its too early for the Spectres to be here yet, they are still on Atollon at Chopper Base, but some of those Y-Wings we see here, would have already been stolen by Rex, Ezra and co - and Kanan is still alive... I do love here in Andor, they have given Erskin Senaj a bigger role with Mon Mothma, than the nasally bureaucrat we see in Rebels with her; showing him to be an effective spy for her and Luthen, one who believes in her, as we also see with the Ghorman Senator in this episode. Genevieve O'Reilly can play someone who is barely hiding her bubbling emotions, so well. We feel the weight of every conversation she has, and is coming to her breaking point hiding behind the scenes like Bail, and is on the verge of dropping the act and becoming the Rebel Alliance leader it needs. There is a deleted scene in Revenge Of The Sith showing Padme, Bail, Mon and several other senators, speaking about what the Chancellor is doing, how the last vestiges of democracy are being taken bit by bit, and that something may need to be put in place. We have seen since, Senators Chuchi and Singh in Bad Batch also look to form some sort of coalition, and now we see Yavin has been set up, and of course as I mentioned earlier, Chopper base and another on Dantooine is up and running too. I would have liked a bit more interaction here in the series between Bail and Mon however, showing them getting this up and running, but they must have reckoned on us putting two and two together. Thats one thing that slightly irks me with Disney Star Wars, we know how the pieces click together, but we don't often see it happening - Ahsoka knowing Luke for example, why not show them first meeting; here with Bail and Mon; something else that happens in Tales Of The Underworld recently. It would just be a bit more satisfying seeing all those little threads being tied together neatly. Got to say the black capes on the imperial officers look spot on, I want one! That and their cute little hats. Obviously a nod to Nazi uniforms in the War, which, and I hate myself for saying this, looked good. Designed by Hugo Boss. Whoever the designers were for the imps here too, needed a payrise. Mind you they probably didn't get paid at all and were being worked to death!! Speaking of the Second World War, its an obvious parallel that I'm sure Ryan and Thomas have made with the Ghormans, and the French/Dutch Resistance. Star Wars has always ripped from history, so it makes sense for them to show similarities here whats going on, and from our own history. YES!!!!! My beloved Vel is going to be safe - I hope! She is on Yavin, phew!!! I don't really give a damn about anyone else making it, as long as she does!

Draven does feel like the military foil/equivalent to Luthen and Saw. A hard man that’s not afraid to do some of the uglier things in war. Still a year away for the Ghost crew. Maybe on Tuesday, we get even a glimpse of our dear recalcitrant pedal bin, like we did in Rogue One. The expanded role of Erskin is great. It is beyond wonderful how Genevieve serves as the heroic foil to Ian as the Emperor in the political realm. Genevieve being exquisitely phenomenal at conveying Mon’s barely hiding her bubbling emotions. Contrast Ian being bloddy Shakespearean in silently selling how the Emperor was just itching to drop the mask of Palpatine and let the beast of Sidious run free. Those deleted scenes were so great. You heard of Genevieve’s casting, the scenes were in the comic book adaptations, and the novelization. Finally seeing the scenes on the dvd was great, and you damn near had a heart attack seeing how perfectly cast Genevieve was as the younger Mon Mothma, and I have LOVED seeing her coming back to the role and being brilliant. Fair thing on being irked over not seeing certain things in the Disney era. We could always get books to help tie off some of the loose threads. Or future shows and films. The Empire always has an excellent sartorial bent. No point in being evil as all hell if you can’t look fabulous whilst being evil as all hell. I heard that the white cape for Krennic was only meant for his first scene, and Ben just loved it so much that he successfully pushed for it for the rest of Krennic’s scenes, and it fits perfectly. Yes, I have been noting the World War II analogies, namely noting how this Ghorman arc feels very much if le Carré wrote a Star Wars version of the René Clément film, Is Paris Burning?. Glad to see you happy about Vel’s survival up to this arc. My favorite character introduced in this show is Dedra, so I hope she makes it, unlikely though it will be, and I’ve preemptively made peace with that. Otherwise, my thoughts for Tuesday, (beyond obviously that the prayer of the Emperor appearing in this show is answered,) characters surviving-wise are this: Kleya better be ok.
