S06E20 The Chase

This week was a cool mysterious departure, with some unexpected twists and turns. Loved seeing Picard in his archaeological element and the ending felt like classic Star Trek. Curious what you guys think of this one! Engage! đŸ––

I love that this episode finally explained why most of the aliens in Star Trek are humanoid (standing on 2 legs, 2 arms and a head on top). A lot of sci-fi shows just "handwave" it. Of course, it is because all the actors are humans, but it's nice to have an actual canonical reason for it.

I think this one is memorable to a lot of fans for the idea that all the species in the Galaxy (or a lot of them) have a common ancestry. That's pretty cool. And when I talk to friends who are Trek fans, it still comes up pretty regularly. x)

ya this one is aclads a classic and the romulan at the end saying we are not totally dis similar . is a nice touch

I love the mystery behind it and the message of togetherness and focusing on similarities rather than differences. My only two complaints are 1) this feels like it should have maybe been a two-parter bc the ending felt rushed and there should have been more of a 'chase' to it, and 2) it really flies in the face of how evolution works - evolution does not direct towards a certain body plan (humanoid or otherwise)

Such a great episode, I guess the Klingon already knew and didn’t care. Your reactions were the best. By the way, next week have your blanket, no creepy creatures but I think Frame of Mind can be one of the more unsettling episodes of TNG that is all I will say about that one other than I like it most of the end of season six is strong like its beginning this has really been a Picard season focused mainly on the Captain

“Kinda looks like Odo.” Hehehehehe. I always thought The Chase could’ve made a bad ass feature length movie. With all those perennial Trek races present, we could’ve had equal parts action, comedy, and waxing philosophical for two hours.

One of my Favorite episodes! This is perhaps one of the most star trekie episodes to air! No episode has ever conveyed more of what Star Trek is about and its spirit. Also this is the first time we get all the major powers together in one shot, Humans (Federation) Kingon Empire, Cardassian Union and The Romulan Star Empire. This is foreshadowed later on (no spoilers) as there will maybe be some galactic ramifications the next time we see all the major powers together in future episodes and events of a certain series. You have a ton of trek to watch and will probably take you a few years to get through it all!

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

I absolutely love this episode, one of my favorites. It finally gives a solid explanation for why so many alien species in Star Trek are humanoid, while still making room for all the wonderfully bizarre non-humanoids the franchise has given us. And like Bobby said, this is some brilliant foreshadowing—without outright spoiling anything, let's just say this revelation could have some serious galactic consequences when all the major factions inevitably collide again down the line. You've got a lot of Star Trek ahead of you, and trust me, it's gonna take a while to catch up to where I'm at. Lol. I've seen everything. And honestly, it feels like I might be part of a rare club of fans who've enjoyed and watched every single episode, season, series, and movie of Star Trek. Lol

This episode is unusual in that it has a very high-concept sci-fi idea, something that would normally take two episodes or a movie to go through, and distills it to 45 minutes while not being condescending to the viewer. Very well-written and directed.

I used to be a fan of a TV show called Millennium that aired a few years after this episode. There was an episode called "Matryoshka" that reminded me a bit of the first few minutes of this episode. Just google "matryoshka" and you'll get the connection.

To me this gave the final explanation of the race Spock called "The Preservers" in the TOS 3rd season episode, "The Paradice Syndrome." The Asteroid diverter on Mirimani's world was placed by the Preservers as a later addition to keep the proto-Natives alive. The Preservers also account for the bilateral resemblance of most sentients in the know galaxy in Star Trek. I loved this episode as it touched upon Picard's past and revealed one of his mentors. I also loved the Romulan at the end. He seems a pragmatic individual. The Chase was a great addition to the Star Trek universe.

I looked up professor Galen’s actor, Norman Lloyd. He died 4 years ago… at age 106!!! His last tv role was 5 years ago at age 105, that’s wild!
