I like the story but I feel like I'm watching a train crash in slow motion when I see how things are going with courses.

I enjoyed the return of the bird and it's good Kai got a wakeup call about his paranoia. I'm looking forward to a discussion on his profession skills. I feel like this book is lacking a focused plot and is jumping between more slice-of-life moments compared to the other books. The parts with his friends, Jolene, the Dean, and the Moon Trial seem to have a more structured narrative compared to the rest. Maybe this is setup for something down the line and it all comes together in the end, but right now it feels like our wheels are spinning in the air too much. I think the final book may benefit from some trimming down the line.

Honestly his paranoia is a bit extreme for a guy his age. For him to open up to his mentor, and her just immediately say ya dont show anymore skills than you have currently, defeated that whole talk. We want him to open and grow as a character. Not just hide away and be miserable forever.

Jolene is the no nonsense authority figure that Kai needs. She knows Kai needs to come to these realizations himself, stubborn little gremlin he is. Hopefully he internalizes her advice before he crashes out spectacularly.

Nah, it makes total sense when you really consider his background, who he is, what he's been through, the enemies he'd made and the consequences of him being caught/revealed. It is a bit frustrating, but it does track with the narrative. Plus the resolution will be satisfying.

Ah the training of a weak orange skill and getting it to yellow will be tough. But those 9 electives will make it hit milestones quickly and ease the strain. Though can Kai get a Sleep Resistance Skill or Achievement for perseverance lol

I think it includes himself, but not necessarily other human-sized objects. Basically, "Maybe don't mention trying the thing with an absurdly high chance of killing yourself or others." It's like not going to medical school and mentioning that you've done intestinal surgery, based purely on vibes, out in the woods. It's possible that it was necessary, and it is somewhat less bad if you took that risk by doing it on yourself, but everyone's default reaction is going to be intense concern.

I think this feeling is amplified by the release schedule. If you read this in a completed book, you could get through a few chapters a day at least, and it wouldn’t feel like the school chapters took as long.

Honestly, gaining a bit of Favor from this overeach on Kai's part would be the only way to make it worthwhile. It would also be cruel on the Guide's part, to reward poor choices and judgment on Kai's part. Reading an exhausted Kai is exhausting when it is an entirely manufactured hardship. From a reader's standpoint, this would only be rewarding with an eventual tackling of this core failing in Kai's character.

Nah, it is a good thing he is doing. I took 6 classes in the university at the same time going full time = 5 classes.in community college for one yr. 80 HR study weeks prepared me for work. Recruiters were more impressed with that. Keep pushing

If he has skill strain after the first week, this is going to end up with him almost failing out after doing horribly in one of the tests or getting himself hospitalized. Only then is he going to change his mind, because otherwise he is being dumb about his schedule. He just discovered several whole new approaches to space magic and he wants to waste time that could be practicing that on chanting, an area he can't even pick up a skill with a professor who hates him.

And profession skills like spatial shift? This chapter is entertaining but everything except what how good his blink is and his favour attribute should already have been shared? If it was just general skills or he changed it to remove divine references it would be good to mention that in 372.

I think it's the Divine blessings that he's hiding but not the boons in his status. Those are 2 different things. Honestly I wonder if she'll deduce that he has been blessed by divinity. He does after all have a boon called Kahali's retribution and he also has blessed swimmer.
