Loved this bit the slow and causal conversation is something story's have a habit of skipping and im just happy and smiling over this chapter. Anime moment has been achieved. Hobbes is the perrfect instigator. Hope kai responds a bit directly like say seeing someone over him and letting his mix of trama and paranoia drive his actions for a moment. If only till he remembers hobbes wouldn't let him be ambushed in thier dorm. Regardless im hyped.

So all this talk about him not getting enough rest is false on their part. If they really cared they would have just let him sleep when they found him resting for the first time in a week, rather than having an unnecessary conversation and then having her come over to wake him up. You don't try an have the intervention of "you are killing yourself by not getting enough rest" the first time that person starts to get some rest.

Holy guacamole! Maybe sprinting head first into a mental and emotional break isn't the smartest thing to do, but hell if it isn't great for the experience. Well-being versus numbah go up... It's a difficult choice for sure. And man, the dynamic between Flynn, Rain and Kai is fantastic.

I mostly find Kai's obliviousness towards Valele to be anywhere from cringe to grating. I understand it is both realistic and in-line with his character, but it gives me the type of frustration to read that i want to stop or just skip whole chunks of the chapter. Honestly, I'm as tired of the slow-burn oblivious main character romance trope as Kai is in this chapter. Hopefully he does drop a class or two, bro's completely exhausted.

Meh. I think it’s actually pretty realistic. Many people almost always show less than they feel when they are unsure how the other person feels. Then it becomes the norm, and until someone actually says something, they’re still in their own head with doubts and deprecating self-talk. Valela is doing everything she can to hide what she feels from Kai, even if that is loosening recently. They have a business relationship already, and many signs of romance can be assumed to be involved in that, since they were explicitly stated to be so. It’s the whole, “pay me the compliment of believing what I say” thing. You’re frustrated that he takes her at her word instead of making assumptions. As for Kai, I’m not sure he’s ever actively thought about romance as being part of his life. That’s also not unheard of for people, even through high school. He’s awkward and uncomfortable with the topic, so he has actively steered away from it. Why would he suddenly understand how the awkward dance before a relationship works? It might be a trope, but I think it’s been done pretty well here.

I believe we know there are. But IIRC, it's dangerous to overuse them. Sometimes the problem is just doing too much. I don't think Kai is someone who avoids crazy and creative solutions to things.

Okay. Kai needs to make himself a small garden in his room. His body will slowly heal around nature. If he couples that with sleep he won't be in as bad of shape. Besides he can always use the plants for alchemy and skill training as well

Sometimes Kai can be rather arrogant. Its in keeping with the character but there are times when it really shows. This repeated refusal to accept the advice of his well renowned teacher - who just confirmed she has best interests in mind - and his friends when they tell him he is overdoing it. Convinced that he knows better than them all. He would rather work until he collapses than admit he's taken on too many classes. Its shown in other moments too in his thoughts about his classmates. I dont mean to say this is a bad thing. As I said earlier its very much in keeping with how he has always acted. Its just jumping out at me at the moment

Happy to get an update on his skills and stuff. I'm excited to see that Mana Analyst, Split Mind, Water Magic and Mnemonic Memory are nearing their milestones, I wonder what specializations they'll get 🤔. Plus Alchemy's reaching Yellow! Dora would be so proud 😊 I'm lowkey kinda torn on him taking all of these classes. He's obviously exhausted but you can't deny how much it's helping his skill, profession and race advancement. I mean he's already like a fifth of the way to the peak of yellow after what, 2 months? I'm still kinda iffy on the timeline
