Ngl having the AI secondguess the MC to give you an opportunity to explain your reasoning why you have him act a certain way just gives me the impression you believe your readers to be idiots with not enough reading comprehension to get the point themselves. This is not the first time either. Well, that or word-padding, dunno which one is worse.

I write the way I would like it explained to myself if I was the reader. If that means I lack reading comprehension then so be it

I've seen people misunderstand things clearly stated in a chapter as something else entirely, it's obviously necessary

Did I miss it or does the protagonist still have that extra earth essence? Could the protagonist trade it for metal or fire? Is fire redundant with the two suns? If the protagonist want to be extra, which would be worth it considering how dangerous this world is, outside of wood and metal, lightning is sometimes the fifth element like in naruto. Maybe an advance element besides time and space, like ice or magma.

Suggestion: "I'm only going to ask once," I said quietly. "Remove your hand“. Maybe: „I am only going to say it once“ because he is not asking, it is an imperative.

I think the problem is a lot of people try to read and compare web novels to normal novels. Due to the bite sized periodic nature they often lack the fluid continuity of traditional formats and the result is often reminders that can appear as reasoning and extra padding. Of course some writers do use it as a crutch or to pad the count but for many it’s a valid way to help the story flow without needing readers to go back and re read chapters or fact check. It’s the reason why many of the better web novels that get turned into books often go through a lot more editing and re writes instead of just being a copy paste. Edit: personally I read fairly fast and would rather read than watch to or movies, but I also like the creative settings and world building that goes into web novels. so instead of sitting down and reading one book I sit down and read 1-2 chapters of 10+ books. Sometimes reminders are nice to help keep each story straight especially the ones that only release 1 chapter a month!

I do question the justification and attitude change for suddenly showing multiple dangerous alien trump cards / acting aggressive and arrogant (acting like a standard protagonist) even though he usually tries to avoid it and has just seen the results of just being on the edge of story lines. He’s also been warning Liu Chen and continuously pointing out hero energy etc. so this does feel a bit like a forced plot point. Unless he soon finds out he’s being influenced by cultivation / the world / system or spending so much time in other worlds where he can act recklessly.

He did try to avoid confrontation, he turned away. He gave the guy multiple chances to leave him alone but then the guy tried to sucker punch him. His only options were to get beat up or defend himself. The only thing that has changed is Ke Yin deciding that it was worth getting the elder's attention. Whether that happens before or during the tournament, it doesn't matter. There's many reasons why his decision has changed, they're mentioned in the chapter. I hope this answer helps

I get the need and how he gave chances etc but it goes against the image I’ve built up of a more careful mc. Solving confrontation with warnings and violence instead of trying to find a third path. Telling a bully to take your hand off me is just challenging them and everyone knows what that does in the real world let alone a cultivation one! Demonstrating in front of other highly competitive and combative sect members by doing so at the tournament sign up instead of somewhere he wouldn’t draw aggressive attention and stick a target on his back / create conflict. i don’t know really it just feels like his whole philosophy and view point that he’s literally just been talking about has gone out the window
